It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default centre midfield settings in a flat 442

I need help playing a flat 442 formation. I want one mc more attacking and the other defensive. I dont know if the offensive one should have a longer range of pasing,i.e mixed or short.

Should the defensive mc with FWD rarely have passing set to the shortest and if so what closing down settings will be best.

Please any example settings/or current settings will be much appreciated.

You want to have at least one to have high closing down, and I'd have another with slightly lower to protect your defense. I'm not sure with which one.

WIth regards to passing I personally have most of my team (CD' and GK's apart) on team passingin my tactics.

I've now decided to go with one centre mid on fwd often and one on mixed at home. Both fwd's on mixed away from home.

what sort of passing should the more attack minded player on fwd's often be on. Should be short for through balls or a more paul scholes type mixed game?

Please help or suggest what you use in a flat 442.

I would play one defensive, short passing, closing down often and low(ish) creative freedom and one offensive, mixed/direct passing, low(ish) closing down high creative freedom..

If you make a tacic for away games aswell I would make the offensive one a little more defensive, make him close down a little more and reduce the creative freedom, as he will they stay in his posision..

Thanks Ebhnielsen. The short passing and mixed is what I had in mind. Away from home I want to protect the centre backs more, So i thought the top of mixed might be best.

As often may mean they are out of position a lot more, sure. Ill try often on defensive mC and less on the offensive.Although I thought it was the other way round. What about wingers? closing down often seems best I think.

Personally i would put the defensive mc on
forward runs - rarely
run with ball - rarely

if you have them both on mixed you'll have times where they both go forward and if you get countered you'll have a gaping hole in the middle of the field.

If you set the MCd on a lower mentality, this will temper the forward runs. I do think it is important to have the MCd go forward on occassion.

I would set FWR to mixed, RWB mixed.

The MCa should be encouraged to get forward when ever possible.

These are settings for home.
