Been playing this game for many seasons now but don't normally bother much with training and just go by the presets (you used to be able to let your assistant take care of training on previous FM's aswell).
Now the preset training normally suits me ok. I was wednesday for many seasons and normally found my players improved, but in all areas rather than their most important attributes (as you would expect with general training of course).
Now I'm with ponferradina (who? indeed) in the 2nd tier in Spain and have got some good young players. I've spend ages totally specialising my training (both youth and senior training) into different programs for CD, full backs, wingers, strikers etc.
Now i'm sure most people do this, but this just doesn't seems to be working for me.
I was expecting my young players to improve in their more important areas (e.g wingers improving crossing, pace etc due to higher intensities on aerobic, attacking training etc). However they often just seem to be declining in nearly all areas, including the areas which they are training harder on. Also my older players (22-30) are declining in most areas aswell.
These young players (range from 16-22) are playing well, my training facilites are not great but are "adequate", i've signed some good coaches etc and also altered the "coaches" part of training, so that my coaches only cover the area they are good at.
Something must be seriously wrong cos I hardly have any players improving (and most declining), despite the training schedule training all of the most important areas for each position (and nearly all areas) more intensively than the default "general" training.
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention that my players are all "happy with his training schedule", and all have generally high levels of fitness.
The youngsters I have which I was refering to (who have been declining) are very able ones aswell: Lucas (DM), Raul Garcia (AM), Vedran Corluka (CD) and Pablo Vitti (ST).
try and get 5*s for each coach area - theres a guide for that somewhere ont he forums
improve your training and youth facilities when possible
experiment with training schedules, make a schedule for each position in your team...theres no point your strikers doing the same amount of defending as your defenders (as the general does)
I've only found this to be a problem if you are over/under working players(even if they are happy with the schedule, if you have the overall bar at "heavy" then I would reduce something), or if the player is unhappy in some other area(ie not playing, unsettled etc).
Of course better coaches and facilities would help too.
