Hello everyone, newbie here. Having read through the rules and guidelines, I have decided to give LLM a shot with Maidenhead United. Updates will be posted after 3 seasons as per forum rules.
But for now I have a question regarding signing of players. While playing a pre season friendly, I was impressed by a certain player playing for the opposition, so i sent my scout out to have a look at him.
However, as he was on the team's transfer list, another team had already put in a bid for him. Knowing that a scout report is probably still weeks away but at the same having this feeling that he might turn out into a good player, I put in a transfer bid as well and managed to get the player.
In this case, I have yet to get him scouted, but having already seen him played (and well did he play, he hardly gave my strikers a sniff at goal), is it against the rules to have put in a transfer bid?
I've never had this situation personally...but it would seem that since you saw him play yourself (I assume you didn't have your assman control the friendly?) then you would have first hand knowledge and wouldn't need a scout.
Having said that...I'm not a veteran LLaMA so my opinion might not be worth much. There are many other 'veterans' whose opinions you might wait for. Ultimately, it's your game so you can do what you want.
I wouldn't have signed him. I know how you feel, it's a biatch when you don't have enough time to scout him and meanwhile another team poaches him, but signing without a scout report beforehand is a no-no for me.
For all you know, he might be crap - one good game is hardly enough evidence to sign a player IMO.
I had exactly the same situation crop up in my Altrincham save in FM2005. Although by the time it happened was many seasons down the track and I was at Villa.
I bought the kid without scouting him. Big mistake. Turned out he was a prodigy in the making, but he came with a mouth. Caused untold problems in the dressing room. Went awol twice and caused a chain of dissension when I fined him.
Not sure that my scouts would have notified me of those potential problems anyway, but it taught me a lesson -- if you break the LLM rules, the game will know and it will punish you.
I'm not so sure...They an't rules, they are guidelines after all.
You are the Manager, and you see this bloke play out of skin against you. Ok, worth sending a scout around. Then you find out another club has put in a bid in for him.
As a Manager sometimes you have to go with your gut, and I think if I was in the same position as redwolf, I would of done exactly the same.
I would put a bid and try to delay it until I got the report from the scout. If I did not get a response by the time the deal needed to be finalised then I would cancel it.
