Friendlies aren't that bad, as long as you get your Ass Man to arrange them.
5800 people turned up to watch my team host Crystal Palace. Hardly a big money-spinner, but a nice pre-season cash bonus.

I'm going to agree with Taips on this one. He saw a player do well and wanted to scout. Taking a chance on a player who played an absolute belter has happened before IRL.
The manager has seen the player, so IMO it's reasonable.
It's not within the bounds of reason to arrange a friendly with a club just to see how a particular player does, though.

You are the Manager, and you see this bloke play out of skin against you. Ok, worth sending a scout around. Then you find out another club has put in a bid in for him.
As a Manager sometimes you have to go with your gut, and I think if I was in the same position as redwolf, I would of done exactly the same.
Opens up flood gates... :p

| Or you're just handicapping yourself. I don't think it makes you more of a zealot. It's just how you play, misguided though it is.
I'd probably consider putting an offer in myself.

Gotta agree with Taips on this one, though my gut is apparently not what it should be. I signed a non-league guy in my current challenge who tore my defense up in a cup match. He turned out to be utter crap .
And no, friendlies IMO don't suck. It's a great way to get your players match fit for the season. And, if you get lucky with a sale or something, you can have a reasonably big club come in for a friendly and make a little extra cash.

Friendlies are there for match fitness and the occassional pot of gold if your Ass Man lands a decent fixture.
The way you play and the actual results of friendlies are a complete waste of time as when the league begins the form you thought you had will almost certainly disappear!
