I do not believe the minimum wage argument. A full time footballer trains about 2 hours 3 times a week and plays, at most, twice a week.
When I kenw some players, there were a number of footballers in the football leagues that had part time jobs to make ends meet as they did not earn enough from football even though they had full time contracts.

in Germany and Austria it's training twice (2-3h) on every day except for days after matches. Then it's no training but only some running and relaxing.

That's why Germany and Austria have won more World Cups than England.

When the ex rugby coach left Southampton last week, this was his complaint. He stated that rugby players trained between 2 and 3 times as hard as Premiership footballers and Southampton players' week consisted typically of
Monday 1 to 2 hours training on a morning. Tuesday Rest
Wednesday 1 to 2 hours training on a morning
Thursday 1 hour gym work
Friday Rest, maybe do a little running in the afteroon
Saturday Play a match
And 'Arry Redknapp says that this is all the top managers are right and the now departed coach is wrong.
Sunday Rest

In my experience, pro clubs generally have 2 sessions of training per day during the week. These sessions will vary depending on mid week matches and the location of the match, if they are home they would have a light work out and the afternoon off to relax and prepare.
There doesn't seem any logical method to working out their hourly rate as managers can call for extra training or allow time off at their discretion.

With my Workington challenge half way through the first season I made the controversial decision to offer all my first team squad full time contracts so that I could up their training sessions. Most accepted but on terms way under the suggested minimum wage above - still bust my wage budget mind and I'm in hot water.
All my coaching ataff are part-timers but I recruited enough to do shift work. There are some worryingly big names (if suitably useless)out there happy to go part-time on 40 squid a week; I've got a certain ex-England legend and Saint-sidekick on my books.
