My Basingstoke game is killing me, the team is doing great but I am spending half my life looking at a grey screen. Of course it is my own fault trying to run a huge Db with only 500 MB Ram. Now I know this is certainly the wrong forum but if I ask this in a technical forum I will be getting a 15 year old offering advice on what colour go faster strips will work best on my PC. Before I ditch my 3 season old Basingstoke game I just want to know how much quicker will FM run if I go from a huge to a small DB and what other effects am I likely to see? I assume my scout will find less players, more difficult to find coaches but any other things I will notice? Any info greatly appreciated!
My advice (as a non 15 year old) is to get yourself a good book to read while the game is processing. This has two benefits:
a) it prevents boredom
b) you actulaly learn something whilst you are playing.
It's not just the db size you need to consider. You also have to think about the number of leagues you are running and in what level of detail. Also whether you have chosen to load players from different leagues.
Sure, you can start again with a smaller db but your game will not be as satisfying in my opinion as the search for players in the lower leagues will become frustrating.
Do what most LLaMas do and read a book during grey time or play another game behind the scenes. Alternatively, post in here.

Bonus both ways.
Huge DB is always best (Size matters).
You could actulaly learn to spell actually in fact. :o
I've got a game running on large database rather than huge, and I have to say I'm quite pleased with the results so far. There seem to be plenty of players and the game does shift along a bit quicker (and certainly it saves a hell of a lot quicker).

Well I want to managed Basingstoke as I spent 10 years there when I lived in the UK. So I have to run 6 leagues with normal detail and that is pretty much it.
I've tried a few combinations but I've stuck with full detail/large database, I have a pretty recent system so it moves along at an acceptable pace, my dad has a similar computer though that seems to struggle with the same settings so he runs basic detail/huge database.
The game does fly, but he cant look at recent results, and his scouts struggle to find youth players, maybe because reserve/u18 games aren't simulated fully when leagues are set to basic detail, which kind of defies the point of having a huge database.
