I just asked the IT fella at work and he said pretty much the same as you, only in a much more complicated way, which wasn't too helpful saying as I barely understood you.
He says to try it, it may run off the slowest but even if it does, just take it out and there'll be no lasting damage.

Got to be done. Now I did buy the machine over 2 years ago and if my own memory serves I did upgrade it to 512 when I bought it. I'll have a look tonight to see if there is more space for ram, shouldn't be a problem *crossing fingers*

Also check the manual for your mainboard, Hogie. It should say, how much memory the board can handle, and what type of memory chips are okay.
Afterwards check what kind of memory is in place. If all slots are already full, you'll have to remove some and buy larger ones (actually they're the same size, but the chips on it are better ) and replace them.

Got the box from dell so I will have to have a look when I get home.
Tough decision though, playing FM V's getting FM working faster eventually.
