I haven't had this problem. I ran two test games of FM2006 to get used to the new features and all. I started unemployed in both and received a job offer in both games around January 2006 (from the same club in both games, interestingly enough). Game 1, manager had American nationality. Game 2, manager had Scottish nationality. I had all English leagues active in both games. It took about an hour of running the game "on holiday" before I got the job offer.

I started my real game last night, but I didn't start unemployed this time...

and yeah starting with a club without a manager was obviously the second option but with maidenhead the only viable option in the sub national conf unemployment looked better

I'll keep you guys up to date now that it's truly a career game.
