Well as far as I know, since SG airport connects literally to any part of the world, the drug transhipment trade seems to favor SG as their link point to their final destination.

The death penalty is there to discourage smugglers from using SG as their point of trade.

Fyi, the above is not my opinion. It's what usually the reason given by the govt.
