Personally I think it ought to be a guideline that people play as the nationality that they truly are, for better or for worse.

The entire LLM guidelines make a moral statement, and, based on your view, it seems that LLaMas are assuming moral high ground as well. So, should we reject that moral stance as inappropriate and throw out the guidelines? I would certainly say no.
Of course not. Everybody who posts in here supposedly already agrees to a base set of values. It would be wrong if we were to claim the moral high ground over someone in a GQ discussion, but if that discussion takes place in here I wouldn't be shy to call him all kinds of names.

Quote:
I don't see what the problem is if my opinion is that choosing a fictional nationality is cheating. But this seems to bother some people. That suggests to me that maybe there is some merit to what I'm saying. Otherwise, why all the fuss?
The fuss comes about because you call people who play the game a different way than you cheaters. Of course that hits a nerve, what do you expect? Feel free to call some plurk a cheater who comes
in here bragging how he used downloaded tactics, superplayers or put himself in the game using the spawn of satan, but don't use the same word on regulars who abide by the LLM guidelines but fail to play the game in exactly the same way you do.

There's nothing wrong with having a discussion about that issue, but there are a thousand better ways of wording it.

Btw, I used to play as my German nationality for many years, but it turned out that games became somewhat repetitive. Even I'm managing in a foreign country I usually have the German leagues running, and it doesn't take very long before I get job offers from Germany, even though my reputation isn't high enough to get a job offer in the country I'm currently managing in. So if I wanted to jump ship a lot, I would either end up in Germany all the time, or would have to wait until I win trophies before getting jobs elsewhere. You might say that's realistic, but one of the nice things about FM is that every game can be completely different. Sometimes I want to stay with the same club for as long as possible and could care less what Nationality I am. Other times I may want to try a different style and take any job offer I can get. Picking my Nationality is part of the toolset I can use to influence what style of game I'm playing.

Well I’m Irish and have always entered my nationality as Irish without even thinking of it’s effect on the game. However I am now living in the states, I like the idea of trading down, I might put my nationality in as American next time, I mean who the hell will take a chance on an American football manager, all the players would end up wearing helmets and padding and throwing on odd shaped ball around the place.

As pointed out, I have always traded down, and do so without thought, as I got so frustrated in previous versions of the game with unrealistic offers.
I could naturally do this, by playing as my second nationality, Canadian, but I find more enjoyment out of picking some random small island, and representing them on the global stage. Not everyone agrees with this, but it doesn't affect my game to any benefit (other than lessening the stupid offers).

The game doesn’t tell you which countries are “small islands” so you are using prior knowledge you cheat!!

For the record, I apologize if I offended anyone with my postings. I guess I don't take the word "cheating" as seriously as some people do. So I wasn't trying to be harsh with my appraisal. I was just using the term as I view it, which is simply to say that it's not the way I think the game should be played. Nothing more and nothing less.

So hopefully we can set aside this whole nationality and cheating issue, and we can focus instead on the fact that The Amazing Dale Watkins is not a proper LLaMa because his very name involves player tipping

Now, if you think I'm being serious with that statement, then I can't help you. It's a lost cause. :p
