We seem to have spent a lot of time discussing FM06's transfer moves, we've spent a lot of time making claims as to what we think is and isn't realistic. So in the interests of a fair and balanced debate, heres one RL story that seems to backup FM06's transfer moves.

Chelsea at the tribunal PLEASE NOTE that the article names players, so to keep it pure I'll summarise the story quickly. Chelsea signed 3 youngsters for their youth academy and offered the clubs concearned (Bristol Rovers, Stockport and Gillingham) a "reasonable" fee. That fee got increased to approximately £2.5m for the trio after a football league committee decision.

Okay so 3 youth players who may never make it to Chelsea's first team are worth £2.5m... but the story continues

Gillinghams dream As a player is named I'll summarise this one quickly. Gillingham seem a little annoyed about Chelsea getting this player on the cheap, so they've taken the unusual step of publicising the financials of the deal. Original deal was £25K upfront, £25K after 6 months, then £400K if the player made 40 appearances. FA committee awarded them £125K for the player (no mention in the article if there are further additional payments). And finally Gillinghams chairman believes that if said player makes 40 appearances they should be entitled to £32m.

I accept this quick example deals with L1 and L2 teams, and not the EC(S/N) junk we laughingly call players... but it does highlight that big teams will throw money around to secure what looks like longterm talent.

Just my tuppence on the subject.

There is only one club in England that throws money away. So this is more an exception that confirms the rule.

We all know Chelsea is the only club for which normal business rules don't apply.

Thanks to the 2nd story listing some of the financials I don't think this is an example of Chel$ea throwing cash around. Lets assume that the Gillingham player never makes it. Under Chelseas original deal they would have paid £50K. Thanks to arbitration Chelsea now get to pay £75K more before they find out if the player has the talent for the premiership in a few years time.

Now lets look at the 2nd bit of the deal we have financials for. Chelsea's original deal would have given Gillingham another £400K if the player makes it to the first team and plays a season. Sadly we don't know if a similiar clause and at what level the arbitrators set, BUT Gillingham are dreaming that they should have got £32m if the player proves himself to be that good!

I refer back to my original post, this is a player moving from one youth academy to another, NOBODY knows if the kid has talent, or if he will develop. But right now he's just cost £125K.

But with reference to our players who get £500K bids thrown at them by the big clubs.... at least we can argue they've plaid first team football

I just had a media speculation message that has stopped all my concerns about the issue.

Quote:
Varzim are after Imortal's Kickass Leftback, who joined the recently promoted team from Sp. Covilas on a £5k fee on July 2006.

It is believed that Varzim will have to fork out £750k for the player.
So, if the AI thinks he's worth that I won't feel guilty if I get that much (or even more) from Varzim

Bit harsh on the Geordies - their English International Striker looks a decent signing so far...
