After I was FM-clean for well over a year, the release of 06 rekindled the ol' addiction.
I took the helm at Fyllingen in Norwegian 2nd division, the team I used to suck balls for back when I was a kid. "Fyllingen" literaly means "The Dump" in norwegian. I'll let that one linger.

SEASON 1 (2005)
Fyllingen, 2nd div group 3
Board/fans expectation: Mid table.
Assessed squad, and found out that The Dump was a applicable name for the club. Signed a new scout and put him to work. Signed a whopping 14 players during the season, for a total of £5K. Most of them slotted right into the first team, and turned out to be pure gold, oddly enough. Not a lot to say about the campaign - we won the league with surprising ease, me being the most surprised of all. Maybe most due to the fact that we didn't loose any league games. That hasn't happened to me since back in CM2 i think. I was well chuffed!
The scouts should have the credit for this: Young FC scored 24 in 25 matches (seconded by Veteran Striker who in his 10th year in the Fyllingen squad bagged 21 in 26 games). Solid MRC aided them with 14 assists. Promising 17Y/o DL and Quick DC were excellent at the back with av.ratings at ~7.50.

Struggled in pre-season as a lot of key players got injured. Had to let go of last year's top scorer, the MRC and the quick DC. Sad, but it got me 1.1M, and well into the blacks.
Signed another scout, and sent'em off to scandinavia.
The scouts found some promosing players, Tall Swedish GK, Young Swedish AMR/FC, Young Nowegian/Chilean AMR and Solid Young MC turning out to be vital. Got a new coach in as well, and got my first 11 full-time deals. Nice to finally have some cash..
Season started off flying, at one point I was in 2nd place. Veteran Striker was on fire the whole season, scored an impressive 32 goals in 30 matches! As the media kept pointing out, my form could never last the whole season. Loosing streak mid-season made me flirt with relegation, but a defensive tweak in the formation and a new Strong DRC propelled me up to a respectable 7th place at the end.

Newly relegated Lillestrøm offered me a job, I grabbed it with both hands. Left The Dump with a heavy heart, but Lillestrøm was certainly the greener pastures: Solid budget, big stadium, full time squad etc. How they got relegated is a mystery, the squad seemed way too good.
Poached Fyllingen for their scouts, as they were the real reason for my managerial success. Also brough with me some of the beforementioned Fyllingen "stars" after assessing them with Lillestrøm's scouts, but lost my young favorite DL to Molde. That was a big personal blow, but Lillestrøm's only decent DL luckily turned out to be ok. (The new Fyllingen manager later sold virtually my whole team, and almost got the club relegated back to 2nd div obscurity.)
Signed Experienced Romanian AML from a swedish side for a record fee of 325K the last day of the pre-season transfer window, and another 8 Bosman players came during the summer.
Met the board's expectation in the league. Not much to say about the campaign. Solid Yound MC from fyllingen and the Romanian AML were the only players who managed to fight their way into the first 11.
Another veteran had a crazy season: in his 10th season for Lillestrøm, Veteran AM/FC bagged no less than 31 goals in 24 games, and got an Av.R of 8.33.
Btw, lost only one game, to Haugesund, who got back to back promotions.
Had my first cup run, and went all the way to the final and beat Premier Div team Fredrikstad in extra time, Young Swedish AMR/FC from Fyllingen scored the winning goal.

As a point of order, I think you'd have been excused for bringing players in from your old club without scouting them first, given that you ought to have known them pretty well already

No doubt about that, but at the time I was unsure if they actually were as good as I wanted them to be, if you catch my drift. Some of them were rated as "excellent" back when I was a newly promoted Div 2 club. The scouts at the newly relegated club found the same players "decent".
In retrospect, I should've payed more attention to my new scouts, as some of the players who once loved me so dearly now moan their way through the season in the 2nd team.
Short ranting update.. Just found out I was qualified for the UEFA-cup, given my victory in last year's cup. Great stuff. I register my players, with the stupid rule that at least 4 of my players have to be "native". Ok, so far so good. I've got a zillion AMs, albeit only one AML, and too few Defs, and only one decent DL, this is somewhat reflected in the registering.
So, what happens? The day after the EURO-reg'ing: Star DRC out with a hip injury. 5 months. Next match: Recently back from injury Romanian AML with avr @ 8.50 and a million assists: Torn muscle. Sidelined 5 months. Just now, before the first UEFA-match: Star Veteran DC: Broken leg. Out rest of season. CURSES!
Apart from that, season going swimmingly. Lead the table on goal diff. Brought in a few bosmans, they are doing so-so. Got promoted a wonderkid, of course he's 15 so he can't play competitive matches. Turns 16 in a week, he better be ready for action.
