What do you usually do when trying to buy players?
How do you choose the players you want?
Is there a certain criteria they have to meet?

Scout for players mostly, but when I'm looking for players to loan from big clubs, I will use the game's "search" feature. Otherwise it would take too long to find them.

Send a scout out and only sign players he finds, no using the player search screen!!
