This came up in another thread and I wanted to put it here for discussion.
With '06 new training regime it appears that having a bunch of coaches is highly encouraged. The issue, as I see it, is that your board only limits the per coach salary... not the staff salary as a whole. As a result, the lowliest conference south team could have 10 coaches, 4 physios and 10 scouts...
What, if any, limits do you place on yourself to avoid abuse? Do you think that this is limited enough by the finances of the club or do you feel the need to go a step farther?
For my part, I have now begun hiring only 1 additional coach per year (there appears to be little need to go above 11 so that would be my upper bound).

I don’t think finances comes into it too much because 10 coaches ‘only’ cost 400 a week. I think at the moment I have 4 coaches and they are all crap.
If you are going to limit yourself wy not limit yourself to one per league as in
Conference south ……..3
Conference National ….4
Div 2 ………………….5
Div 1 ………………….6
Championship ………..7
Premiership …………..8
uh and how would that work in other countries? Just do what you feel is realistic for a club your size. If you don't know what's realistic you can look at the other clubs in your division.
Like Hogan said, however, the money isn't that big of an issue... 12k per year (the cheapest part time coach i've seen in american dollars) isn't going to make or break anyone... even hiring 10 is only 120k... that may be a bit painful but if you anticipate promotion in the next couple years it won't even be noticed...
However, it IS unrealistic... i just wondered if anyone had noticed and given any thought to it

Disclaimer: I don't have FM06 so don't know whether 10 sh1te coaches would be better than 2 or 3 good ones.
I do have FM06 but I'm afraid an answer to that question can be considered as tipping.
However realism dictates that having 1-2 crappy coaches and maybe an assman are all you're going to get untill the league
I'm currently re-reading Garry Nelson's superb book "Left Foot in the Grave", about his season as AssMan at Torquay, at the bottom of what is now League 2. The staff consisted of the Manager, Player-AssMan Nelson, a player-coach and one physio. Scouting was done by whatever mates the staff could cajole into helping them out. Since we have to simulate that with scouts I'd say 2 (maybe 3 if you have one doing next opposition) would be about right.
I think, laxrulz777, that what is realistic varies so much from club to club and league to league, a guideline would be unworkable.
Search your feelings, you must. Serve him well, a LLaMa's instincts will.
Ah, Ha! I should have used the famous rhetorical question mark, to avoid an answer that may include tipping
This issue surely can be sorted out as Iaj says by applying the 'what is realistic' approach. How many coaches do YOU think a team in YOUR league should have. If the answer's 10 then great.
