In 5 seasons the closest I have come to the relegation battle is 6th in the league. It is annoyingly easy. What I find even worse is that my team looks decidedly average compared to the other teams in the league and yet we keep grinding out results.

I take your point, Hogie.

Personally, I am quite pleased that the game is designed to be playable rather than ultra-realistic. Let's face it, if you genuinely had to be a tactical whizz and know how to really spot a player then only actual football managers would stand much of a chance of progressing. I quite like it that I still get a chance to imagine my virtual success as a manager, standing on the touchline with my "Big Ron" coat, barking orders at players in awe of my authority.

Too much realism is a bad thing. That's what I escape by playing the game in the first place.

I honestly think it is getting to the stage where to keep the game challenging to people that have been playing I for years they may have to introduce (dare I say it) difficulty levels.

I think it would be very easy to introduce also. The way I would do it is at the start of the game you choose your difficulty level. Let us suppose I choose hard.

Well all that would do is before each match it temporarily increase all the AI players stats by +1. I really don’t know how many stats would need to be increase to make the game tougher but I would imagine it would be very few. After the game they magically disappear.

Suppose for example all AI players pace Attribute were increased by 1. That would probably be enough to make the game tougher. If it wasn’t then also increase the Jumping attribute by 1.

Obviously if somebody were to choose easy then their players stats would be increased by 1.

As for realism well once you have selected you level and chosen your team the difficulty would be invisible.

This idea is, dare I say it, utter rubbish.

Of course you may dare to say it but backing it up with a reason might be helpful. I am finding the game rather easier than I would like some are finding the game harder than they would like. Any ideas yourself?

I don't like the idea. At all. We already have difficulty levels, you can choose to manage Workington, or you can choose Chelsea.

I don't think the game is too easy, it's darn hard at times, even after playing all versions since cm 94. Back in the day, when your 6 strikers and lone left sweeper banged in so many goals you could hardly press space inbetween - THAT was easy. But still - as wearapipple points out - so enjoyable.

Dale Watkins … Is it the difficulty levels you object to? Is it the method of introducing difficulty? Is it that you feel the game is perfect and needs no amendments?

Lukewarm, May I borrow your vorpal sword and stick it where the sun don’t shine in Mr Warkins?

Tobias, you can always select normal difficulty which would have.... no effect at all

I'm actually one of the few people not completely opposed to the introduction of difficulty levels, but certainly not by giving the AI an advantage or by artificially crippling the player. The game could already be harder if a tactical faux-pas would be punished more consequently, and I'm sure SI could do that but are afraid it would turn off newbies. There are other areas in the game that could be handled more realistically such as finances and training. So I wouldn't be opposed to the introduction of a super realistic mode. Ideally this should be the only mode of the game, but I'm pretty sure SI is trying not to lose the casual players and aren't trying as hard as they could to improve realism.
