Meh for 10 games none of my strikers could score from one-on-ones (possibly 30 one-on-one situations)this just happened to coincide with us playing really, really badly at home against a poor team, no problems with morale or anything I just think secretly my players finishing and composure stats were reduced to 1 and 1 respectively (after the loss ). Now of course normal service is resumed with my players converting 1 in 5 one-on-ones. :thdn:

Just for the record, I don't consider this little quirk the AI cheating at all, as I'm sure that AI controlled teams who are dominating matches and creating similar chances are having the same problem.

It just feels like the match engine has to keep the scores at a reasonable level, and the only way it seems to be able to do this is to have forwards consistently perform embarrassingly badly in front of goal if they're getting loads of chances, or have the keepers play a blinder.

But hey, you're totally right, Ackter, it's another OMG SUPERKEEPERS WTF thread.

Doesn't mean it's not a problem for around half the users on this forum though.

I reckon it does, especially in the transfer market.

The AI seems to know the CA/PA of every player, and I can only replicate that knowledge with Genie Scout. Hence the AI cheats.

So do I, but that's beside the point

That's the way I've always seen it to be, the overkill of shots/misses/saves creates an action packed ME sequence.

I've never made up my mind whether or not reducing them to what most of us see as realistic levels would be good or bad.

I suppose as long you know that's what is happening it's not bad, it certainly creates the requisite emotion

IMO the 08 match engine seems far less predictable with finishing being very realistic, I particularly like the way players now pull shots wide or skew curved efforts wide, whereas before it was just over the bar all the time.

Its been a good couple of years since I last oohed and aahed at close shots- and even when I lost the playoff final to get into the league I was nowhere near as frustrated as I wouldve been in previous versions- as in the narrow 2-1 defeat that we dominated I felt we were just unlucky, rather than feeling cheated by the match engine.

The match engine has really reignited the fun in FM again for me.

I have seen this happen and when it does it is a challenge I understand that this is a game and sometimes in games there are quirks that allow the game to control the outcome and make the game that bit harder it is suppose to add to the enjoyment.

I don’t care if my strikers miss 5 as long as my team scores more than the other in most of its games.

I have played this game since the start and even go back as far as football manager games on the spectrum. So possibly my appreciation of the advancements made temper my expectations.

If the game is doing the same thing then I change it. I have a base tactic that I try and use but I spend time looking at my scout report and the opposition line up and tinker if I can to give me the best result.
I will tinker during the game by looking at where the threat is coming from and act. It works I have won in Barcelona with Rangers by changing to three at the back with my wingbacks marking Ronnie and Messi and two defenders on Henry. I went on a 28 game unbeaten run in my second season and got to the semis of the CL.

I shout at the screen when I have had 15 shots and them 2 and it ends up 1-1 but then I have sat in the stands at football matches and done the same.

But I have also went 2 – 0 down at Motherwell and tinkered change and shouted to win 2-3 with a last min goal from the 80th min sub. And it is that that makes me keep coming back for more.

There definitly seems to be some sort of one on one bug, whats most ridiculous is the way they approach the one on ones (strikers that is).

Once away they decide to slow and pull into the middle before booting the ball straight at the keeper, the only time they actually score is when the ball rebounds of the keeper into their path, seems to happen more to opposition strikers.

I really feel somethings wrong here.
It happens all the time, those never scoring players always have their first one against my team!!

Same with superkeepers. I always check their stats after the match, and prior to it they have morale:poor form:67576

Good thread. And for the brainless fanboy fools posting here, this is a forum where people are allowed to express their opinions, so gtfo.

If you have a tactic which, as I do creates something like 10-20 chances a game regularly you would expect not to be struggling to score constantly.

You would not expect a player like Kaka, or Inzaghi, Ronaldo or Gilardino to consistently miss clear cut 1on1 chances to score, I have constantly had this problem with all teams I have managed.

And the long shot problem is a total joke, non stop aimless shots that before the fanboys jump in and say tactics, cannot be stopped regardless of how low the CF is, how high the Ttb slider is, or having long shots on minimum.

The fact is that I am not talking about superkeepers, my players seem to be crap finishers, no matter their quality.
