Just a quick question about the DMC position. I'm currently playing a 4-4-2 wide diamond formation, and I'm finding the DMC to be key. My question is about his closing down. At the moment, I have it quite high, which works well against the weaker teams, as it leaves them less time on the ball in the middle, and has me on an 8 game domestic winning run.
However, in Europe, his high closing down is along time in behind, especially against the 4-2-3-1 style.
So, should he 'sit' with a low CD or rush out and close the space??
My take on it is that I want the DMC to cut out the through balls to the strikers. By having low closing down the DMC stays in his position and does his job allowing the D-line to be deeper. This nullifies pacy attacks. If your DC's are good in the air you will be pretty defensively sound against the through ball and teams playing direct.

I agree with whs, especially if you face 3 AMCs in 4-2-3-1 formation. In this case your DMC tries to close down several players at once, and it is not gonna work unles he is genious. Leroy's approach will probably force the opposition 4-2-3-1 to try more long shots though.
