I certainly feel this is the most unenjoyable version to date. Yes there are alot of improvements from FM2006, but the tactical side of things is just too unrealistic and annoying.
This is not a moaning I can't win thread as I have still managed to be quite successful, just feel for alot of people this just isn't enjoyable at the moment.
Fm07 is the most unenjoyable for me. Far too complex, and too much emphasis on tactics. This is the only FM where I have only finished one full season, have quit most other games 3/4 way though as I was always losing. I really hope Fm08 isn't going to be so hard tactically, so I can enjoy it.
Heh. I play FM07 all the time, but it keeps annoying me. Like it's been coded into the game that you can't be too successful - if you are, the AI WILL beat you, no matter how good your team is and how bad the opposition is.
I agree that there's too much emphasis on micro managing tactics, which is why (like so many others) I'm trying to develop a sound tactic that can be used all the time (with minor adjustments depending on opposition).
At the moment my Tottenham team is really good, and in the beginning of the season my forwards/amc's scored a lot of goals and produced a lot of chances - now I've hit "reranking" time and even though my team *still* produce a lot of chances, the ball suddenly won't go in as often. Did my forwards get worse? Nope. Did the opposition's keeper get better? Nope. So what is the explanation? I have no idea, but I can't help being left with a feeling of irritation. I'm thinking about creating a superteam with max stats all over the board (low "negative" stats of course) just to see if reranking will make such a team easily defeatable when using a tactic that has been working for the first half of the season.
I agree with paulowen, spikester and trikztar. I myself am having success with the game, thanks to the experts on these forum who have been kind enough to land me a helping hand. However, I still consider this version the least enjoyable. There's always that factor of irritation and annoyance in many matches that you know you should be winning. Like trikztar said, when re-ranking takes affect, what really changes... well, the players still stay the same, the tactics are still working apparently, because I can see that I'm dominating possession and shots on target but the major difference is that barely anything or sometimes nothing at all goes in.
Now think about it in real life terms, which is what SI is trying to simulate. Will you see for example Man U or Barca go through a completely sudden change like that? I read people here list all kinds of results that happen in real life where the better team doesn't win the game that they statistically dominated. Yes, this does happen in real life but it's not as common. I would like to see someone list to me 15-20 matches in once season where a team like Chelsea loose the game which they have dominated. Sure, they'll loose 2 or 3 in a season.
So back to the SI's solution. I don't think what they came up with is good at all. When in real life is it scripted for a powerhouse team to go into a sudden slump? When is it scripted for Charlton to figure out Man U's tactics at a certain point in the season?
I think that unless SI can realistically portray the ups and downs of teams that they should leave it alone for the most part.
unfortunately SI are losing it. I have won the Premiership with Forest, but the game is clearly less enjoyable than the other versions. And, yes, unrealistic exactly where it tries the opposite.
If they continue this way, the game will lose (at least some of) its popularity.
It's fffffb. I've spent hours, days, weeks even, on FM07. This one, and before it, FM06, have been fantastic games - the best since the 01/02 glory days.
Yes, it's difficult. Yes, it can really wind you up sometimes - but, get it right, and it is so rewarding - more so than 01/02 which, for all the glorious memories it invokes in many of us, was rather simplistic.

I went back to 01/02 a few weeks ago as I was stranded in Hereford on my own with only my girlfriend's old laptop. In hindsight, it isn't that brilliant. And having been used to the excellent new skins and clearly presented data, I got lost quite quickly. I had years of fun on it when I was younger, but unfortunately the later versions seem to spoil you so going back is really tricky.
