i can't see how you can complain that the game is not enjoyable just because it forces you no to rest on you laurals. Yeah the tactics are complicated but that means when you get it right you feel like you've achieved something. Previous versions of the game suffered because you could just find one good tactic and stick to it - how boring is that! I like the fact that the game adapts - it's more realistic and keeps things interesting.
For instance I'm currently playing as Notts Forest. It's the 2011/12 season and I'm in the champions league. Last year was my first season in the premier league and I took it by storm, finishing 3rd and many of my players enjoying brilliant campaigns. This season I assumed it would be more of the same because I'd bought a few new players in to strengthen - but no! I became complacent and the game worked out my tactic, now I'm sitting in 13th place with 8 games left. However, my tactics are effective in Europe and I'm in the Champions League quarter finals. That's realism - how many times has a team got promoted and proved a surprise package, only to fall back down to earth with a bump in the next season. I was worried i'd created some sort of all conquering super tactic (wouldn't want that as it's just no fun) but I haven't
Now I face the challenge of turning the teams fortunes about and It's made me even more hooked. Winning isn't everything lads, so if you get frustrated, keep at it.

Winning isnt everything, and neither is my hair!
The other day i bought a hairy cactus, so that when i look at his proud white haircut, i can fondly remember my own barnet with much happiness!
Ah the pre-Football Manager days...

I agree with all of the points above, yes its harder, yes you need to spend more time within the game to be successful. Thats the way it should be.....BUT, what is annoying is how the AI turns against you in the actual game play. I can't tell you how many games have come down to my players simply banging away at goal for the goal keeper to save everything, while the oppostion comes down and scores 2 goals on 4 attempts. One game sure it happens, but 5 games in a row each keeper is a hero???????
I just don't think they worked out a good balance and if you play enough you see that alot of the success isn't decided by you match in and match out.

| The fact you actually use the phrase "the game worked out my tactic" shows how UNREALISTIC the game is not realistic. It is this above everything else that really frustrates people.
IRL every single team just doesn't suddenly "work out" your tactics.
Fair enough if they game was difficult right from the start and you struggled to creat a tactic that worked. I could live with that and keep going until I got it right.
The huge frustration is for many people including myself is that you finally get it right, go on a good run playing well and the suddenly it goes wrong. This can happen IRL but it just seems to happen every single time on this game.
How people can turn round and defend it and say its realistic is beyond me.
For example why the hell if a team goes to short passing and slow tempo MUST we change to direct and fast? and if a team plays attacking we MUST play defensive, its just ridiculous.

I'm not amazing it at, not even good tbh.
Never have been succesful in all the fm's but I do feel the tactics are ok, not too complicated - maybe why i'm rubbish at the game!
The only part that does annoy me is the backpasses, i definately think they're scriped into the game to happen against big teams!

| Nah, they happen at all levels, against all teams both against and for your team.
Doesn't make them right though - it's shocking that any professional football team would make more than one or two of these a season, let alone one or two every game as happens now.

FM07 is the first game i have ever REALLY cut the cd in half with, its so infuriating.
It has the best features by far but it has also been the least enjoyable to me, the game has zero consistancy, FM06 was my favorite, and more realistic in my opinion.

Si to be fair to them have a massively difficult task. To be honest it's almost impossible.
If they strive for realism the game would become frustrating, difficult and completely inconsistent, just like real life. 99% of managers would get nowhere and would be sacked within a couple of years and never recover.
The other side to this is having an unrealistic game which is fun to play. I think all the CM games, plus FM up to 06 were.
Balancing the realism that most players crave for against the fun elements is where the key battle lies for developers of footy management games. SI do a far better job than the competition it has to be said.
I think a game should always be winnable. Football Manager isn't at the moment. I cannot win the league with my favourite team Everton, it's simply beyond me. Some would champion Si for this, saying it's realistic, but it's not fun at the moment. I used to love the game, but now I hate it in equal portions and just wish I could 'do' it. I can't.
I expect the next game to become even more tactical and 'realistic'. I think that is where I will leave the series and move to another game.

Im sorry but the game is just awful. Its scripted beyond belief, Im sure people have noticed as soon as you score the game changes completely 90% of the time RIDICULOUS. Its just so predicatable now its actually laughable when you playing a game.
Unless this is sorted I'll not even be considering buying the next version for the first time ever.
