What's a good figure for this, and for shots on target/goals?
At the moment I don't seem to be converting my chances that effectively - scoring just 16 goals from 103 shots (53 on target). That's 0.3 goals/shot on target and 0.16/shot.
Man City, currently in the running for the title (after winning it last year in 2015) have managed 0.4 goals/sot and 0.22 goals/shot.
I've got everyone on long shots rarely to stop them from having constant potshots at goal (doesn't seem to work though...) and create several clear-cut chances every game. Is there anything I should do in particular that may improve my chance conversion? I've got a quick tempo, which may influence things (even though it shouldn't) with players possibly rushing their chances.
You need to first look at where most of your shots are happenin from, most of the time you will see a pattern. I they are long shots, then look at creative freedom for thi player it could be a tad too high. Also check his stats like decisions as if its low that could be another reason.
But I find playing quick tempo creates more chances, but it also increases shots off target. I can often dominate games and have only 8 shots on goal, with 6 of them on target on goals.
Oh, and, along with rarely long shots, no-one has anymore than little creative freedom (apart from my AMC who has 11). My current strikers have 12 and 9 though - could that be a problem? Despite their high finishing (17 and 18) and composure (15 and 20) they seem to fluff many of their chances, especially one-on-ones.
Try to decrease tempo by 2 or 3 notches. It seems like your strickers do not have time to take a good shot as they forced to play quickly (check their decision stat).
