I play a conservative 442 with FC Inter Milan.
I have two wingers (AML and AMR), one AMC and one DM.
I have noticed that when I reduce 'Forward Runs', increase 'Creativity', reduce 'Run with Ball', set mentality to 'Normal', turn on 'Hold up Ball' and turn off 'Free Role' on my AMC I get best results, ofc accompanies with:
A DM with almost the same settings except more defensive minded and similarly creative.
Passing for both of them is set to 'mixed'.
Whenever there is a move being created, these two fall back right infront of the two DCs while the wingers and full backs fill up the opposition half. The creative ability of the AMC allows him to search for that killer pass, and coordinate a run with the DM who is quite creative himself. The DM also supports him in gathering up any miss placed pass or loose ball that is rolling around.
Plus, when a forward is in the open an ready for a pass at the edge of the opposition backline the fallen back AMC ensures that he gets a pass ASAP as the AMC is idle + has the ball to pass it.
These two players also get a good shot on the goal from range when they are slightly backwards in the open and they find a loose ball.
I will later post pictures to illustrate this properly. This tactic is for players using a weak AMC like Aimar or Silva.
