I want to play with five in the middle of the park but am not sure how to get the most out of a lone striker.

Any suggestions?

I'm playing a 4231 system with 2 MC's, and AM L,R & C and a lone striker.

The 2 wingers are set to cross to centre to aim for my ST to exploit his aerial heading ability.

To make the system work the ST must have high pace, strength, jumping, heading & finishing. normally set to hold up ball (but not set as target man) although recently I've found a quick striker set with run to ball to mixed to work well.

Mentality for ST should be set high, about 17. Depending on your system your AM's should have a mentality of around 15

I just set his role as a Targetman, list him as a Targetman, see how he likes the ball to be played and then decide how to get it to him. Limiting freedom of creation and movement helps alot. But lone striker is not good enough for me.

It can work, I'm top of serie b with my lone striker having scored 10 in 12 games.

Goal scoring midfielders are key to relieve the pressure on him though.

What if yr striker is fast like owen.
A fast striker who is not strong and can't head. How will u configure him now?

What formation are you using?

What sort of strikers to you have e.g fast/good in air/strong/goal poacher type?


My personal expierence is with a fast striker who was also very creative (Ewerthon)

my setting for him were:
mentality:1 notch below attacking
CF:the lowest click of normal
closing down: highest click
tackling:easy
FWD runs:mixed
RWB:often/mixed depeding on pace/marking of defenders
long shots:rarely
TTB:normal
cross ball: rarely
and sometimes TM ticked and used ewerthon with feed run onto ball

these settings worked very well for me and Ewerthon scored roughly 30-40 goals per season.

also it helps if you have some good MC's for your level to supply the through balls - but only have their TTB on mixed.

sorry for double post, but just to say that I think a Gilardino type player is the best to play upfront on his own as he is creative, quick, can dribble,finish and is excellent in the air
