Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

UNITED!!!!! is on a distinguished road
Default Which type of marking should I choose?

I am playing as scunthorpe in league 1 and I think my players are probably better than average for the league. My dilemma is which variety of marking to choose?

Should I go with tight zonal, loose zonal, man marking, tight man marking?

I have found that if you tight mark then the strikers will role you too easily, if you mark zonally then they have much to much room and over-loading in one box is very possible. However, I don't think my players have the ability to man-mark which would be my preference.

Which type of marking would you choose in this situation?

Also, Do you have a marking style that you always use and that you have found top be effective?

Many Thanks

oRez is infamous around these parts

Heres how I usually decide, based upon my team's attributes:

pacey + physical: Tight zonal.
pacey + weak: Loose zonal.
slow + technical: Tight man.
slow + weak technical: Loose man.
Pacey + Physical + Technically gifted: Man Tight Hard Tackle.

I normally just set all opponents to zonal, with my 2 DC's man marking the ST's.

If they play 1 or 3 upfront its zonal allthey way.

seems to work.
