Apologies if this is a novice question or covered elsewhere (I did look).

With the new patch (when starting a new game in particular) I get a scout report (requested by me) where many players want to come to play for the Toon ("extremely interested" to "some interest") but no scout (even when I ask them all) can give a projected bid value! This happens even if spending money on a better quality scout, who arrives at the club only to also hold back on projected prices for scouted players...

Under the original FM07 and with patch 7.0.1 there were very few reports that did not contain a recommended bid price for an interested player and is this something specific to the new patch or am I missing a tweak somewhere? It almost appears under the new patch that recommended bid values are only given to players that the game thinks you should buy for your team but, of course, I may be imagining this!

While I appreciate that this element might have been introduced to make the game more difficult it is far less enjoyable and time consuming to multiple bid for a player because his current value of, say, £2m means a bid of £15m is expected before any positive response is received.

Any help appreciated.

Scout reports are far less detailed now in the first instance.

Either repeat the request for a scout report a few times with the same scout on the same player, or scout him for more matches. That way, you get far more information about his personality, attributes and financial details.

I think this is a General Questions issue, actually, but who cares?

Is there a reason why the reports are less detailed, seems like a backward step to me?

I think it was because (this is just on my experience), the lower league scouts used to be far too good (in my opinion) in judging a player after just one report, so they scaled it back a bit.

To be honest, I think they should be able to tell you an asking price almost straight away, and it should take them longer to find out things such as detailed personality reports, but there you go. May be if we could instruct them to give us a rounded report, or a skill report, or a financial report this would be better...

I'm not complaining. The scouting system, compared to previous versions, is superb - I hardly ever use player search now, even in leagues where I haven't a clue who's good or bad.

I agree that the scouting is much better than it was, making player search pretty much redundant at times. Still can't seem to set a scout a specific task of, say, "go to Italy and find me a young goalkeeper" even though all scouts (maybe same request to different scouts and to different nations) are set up correctly.

That said, scouting was a massive step forward for FM07 and if this can be developed further for future games (maybe more random and incisive comments from different scouts + your own thoughts on different scouting variables) then it will be an excellent facility...

Use the same scout to scout the same player the 2nd time, he will most likely give you a purchase price. Also from my experience scouts with high "mental" attribute tend to give you a more comprehensive report in the 1st scout report.
