yep, very annoying thing, the formation itself could be applied by a manager IRL but it would be impossible to have dominance in all areas of the field and that happens when the AI switches to 424. Opposition players start running like mad (bite me if it is possible to run from one side to other few times after 80 minutes of defending, rubbish) and my players turn into impotents and total dummies who can't even tackle rubbish forwards.

No, and I agree with this point - the AI moves to 4-2-4 far too easily.

My issue was with the moronic poster, not with this debate. I think the move to 4-2-4 in itself isn't unrealistic, since it's an ultra-attacking 4-4-2, but to replace the wingers with strikers is just absurd.

That was the point until the thread was hijacked by an idiot with a God-complex. The 4-2-4 is annoyingly potent but there are strategies you can use to defend against it. Regard it as a border guard against ridiculous levels of user dominance and learn to love the achievement of winning games you deserve to win through tactical nous alone. The 4-2-4 does turn the opposite team in samba de janeiro mode. They're incredibly solid in defense, they start running around like mad, and all of their forwards become Pelé. However, you could have a midfield of Fabregas and Alonso and they'd forget how to pass the ball.

Even with all that it's counterable, you just have to tick on counter attack, pull back, "park the bus" and play both flanks, where there's more space and all the BaresiKoemanBeckenbauer defenders won't be able to intercept the ball so easily. It'd also be wise to turn time wasting to the max...

Just as an aside, when I play against a Steve Coppell managed Reading, they switch to 424 after about 10 minutes, whatever the score...

Maybe he's one of those "thinking outside the box" type of managers. He figures if 4-2-4 works so well in the last 10 minutes of the match then why not use it much earlier, like 10 minutes after the start. Might really throw off the opposition

i have a solution well this works with my tactic, i just either keep it the same or just put barrows on full backs, change team mentality to 4, passing 12 tempo 20 width 5 closing down 20 time wasting 15 d line 1 tackling normal, use playmaker, t man and CA

i didn't mean to send the last one without this bit (sorry for double post) against betis i went 2-0 up and they scored on ht so i left it the same and won 4-1
