This might make me sound like a noob but i've never really thought about it. I know that it makes you more offensive but how?

Does it tell your players where to stand when you have the ball?

Does it tell your players which direction you want them to make forward runs?

Is it a tool to dictate the distance your players will move while making forward runs?

As I understand it, the forward arrows indicate positions that your players run into when you have posession of the ball

The backwards arrows indicate where your players will move to when you do not have posession.

Of course soemtimes do whatever the hell they want to do.

In general it is the areas that your players will cover. This is especially true of sideways arrows.

Its also worth bearing in mind, that if you arrow a player into a position, he should have the ability to play in that position.

watch a match on full without your players on arrows, and then try it with arrows. you will get a better understanding this way, if you put your 2 full backs with back arrows you will notice that your 2 cd will be in front of your fullbacks.
