I've read many posts in this forum in search for that magic formula, which is really hard to find and to create, however I think I found the the right one and would like some suggestion about it.
my first impression about arsenal is that football is a team sport, hence i dont believe in individual instruction, just set the team's only and never tweak other than that.
secondly, i dont like to have a defensive midfielder, i rather had two centre midfielder going up and down the field. vieira is said to be a defensive midfielder but to me he's more central than that as he can scores goals from open play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU4AFbcynbY which is quite different than other dm like makelele and gattuso(no offense intended)
thirdly, i always hate time wasting and it even surprised me when the si come up with it,oh call me the so righteous football fan, but people paying good money to watch football, and therefore deserves 90 minutes of non-stop action. morally acceptable? you decide.
lastly, the ever debatable issue about the tempo, passing and width. arsenal playing short, but with slow tempo not with fast tempo like some people may believe, the blistering pace that been seen is only during counter attack, they also played narrow with their full backs always overlapping.
so, what did i come up with?
4-4-2 attacking(basic)
mentality 13
creative freedom 5
passing 5
tempo 5
width 5
closing down 14
time wasting 1
defensive line 14
tackling easy
focus passing mixed
zonal marking
target man mixed
tick this only
use playmaker
offside
counter attack
and the results? well, i managed bangor city in wales, and it's a middle table kind of team, i guess but always beat the bottom table teams 4-0 and 3-0 and gave a good fight against upper table teams, which is usually losing or winning by a goal margin.
Personally, I'd drop the "use playmaker" option. That Arsenal team had Henry, Bergkamp, Pires and Vieira setting up the attacks, not a single figure central to all moves.
Also re: the DM, in that Arsenal side Gilberto was the DM. Vieira was the box to box midfielder, not quite an AM, not quite a DM, but both.
