Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default mentality-the key thing.

I have a question to you. When anyone of you adjust mentality, how he makes it.I read few theories
1) Difference between mentality (example DC-2,FB-3,MC-4)
2) 5 players defend, other five attack(DC,FB-4)(AMC,ST-16)
How do you design mentality?

Some like to use RoO system, while some like to use other kinds of system.
I suggest u read wwfan's thread on tactics as it is a good read.

However, I want to state that I use a global mentality system, with only the DMC and SC having individual mentalities. As they are the key players in my tactic, I use individual mentality to fine tune them.
I'm afraid of using wwfan's RoO system as my players are not very good and to me this confuses them. That's why the best way for me is the "Keep it simple" way by using global mentality.

I personally agree and use this system but wwfan has a lotof advocates so Im sure it has many advantages.

I use one mentaility for the back line, another for the midfielders and forward. The exception is the keeper whi I leave at default (centre)and a MC moving into the DM position who I generally set a little lower.

I am having great success with global mentality.

I also tweak the mentality of the key players in my team.

This is what the AI does and I find this produces the best results.

I have played the game since the very first Championship Manager and have to admit that this latest incarnation is the toughest - and therefore the most enjoyable/frustrating! However, I have found much better succes by using wwfan's RoO. However, I have discovered an interesting twist. If I play a more defensive tactic ( central defenders on a mentality of 6 and all the subsequent changes through the team)I set the global mentality to attacking. I don't know why, but I seem to have a pretty solid de3fence but a powerful attack. When I use an attacking setup (defenders on 14 and strikers on 20) I pull the global mentality back a bit (one notch above defensive) and agai an it seems to make a difference - good attack but a slightly more solid defence. I also think that the defensive line is much more important than before. I play a very deep line if the opposition are good - again it seems to make a difference. Tempo and passing also seem to have a significant impact - I play short and slow, but if I am dominating the game in terms of possession I up the tempo and move passing to mixed. I seem to have more success if possession is roughly equal than if I am dominating. Hope this gives you a few ideas. Good luck!

I've recently started using just global mentality except my keper who is always defensive. The team plays as one whole which is what wwfan looks to achieve in is RoO as does the guy (forgotten name sorry) in his "Unbeaten Combination of Cleon and wwfan". However all on team I find is just mre convniant, and I adjust in accordance with the principles outlined in Cleon's Sheff Utd thread and wwfans "How to play Fm07" thread.

Whether all global or RoO is the most successful I don't know. SOmething tells me RoO might be, but there are may other factors which affect success, and all global is the most conveniant for me and achieves good nough success so far (in itself at least, I often get my passing, tempo and closing down wrong).
