It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Everton: Which formation/tactic to use?

Hi, I'm playing with Everton in the first season. Which formation/tactics should i use? I would prefer to bring Arteta and Cahill into play as much as possible. I tried playing a 4-4-2 diamond but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks!

Make 4 tactics, home, away, all out attack and all out defend. If teams are time wasting from the start switch to your all out attack formation. At the 60th or 70th min mark if you are drawing or winning the AI will usually switch to a 424 formation so switch to your all out defend tactic.

For teamtalks see Wolfgangs thread, excellent reading.

Prepare your players properly by giving them pre season training for the first month of the season. Also get coaches for 7 stars or as many as you can get for each training category. Devise seperate schedules for GK, CB, FB, CM, AM, CF and the same for your youth players.

I like to tart up my scouting as well but that is not a priority.

FM 2008 is one of those games where you really need to watch the full match and make changes as the game goes on.

Opposition Instructions should be dealt with as follows:

Big targetman, always close down.

Quick striker never close down if the have "knocks ball past opponent" in their ppm.

I change my closing down depending on which formation i am using, but I always show opponent onto weaker foot for all the opposition. hope this helps
