It has always been my understanding that you should try to employ the following things when you are home and a favorite to win the game v. a similar or weaker opponent:
Quick
Direct
Closing Down
Attacking
Pressure type play.
I am playing League 1. So, a lot of parody.
Is anyone else finding that when they employ this against the seemingly ideal opponent - a home game v. a team that "plays defensive and looks to counter" - that they cannot score? Worse, they get punished for it.
I lose 1-0 on a pathetic breakaway after dominating (or at least controlling) the entire match? And, I am second in goals after 16 games. 19 Away, 16 Home. So, I can score.
Some are going to say slow your tempo down, but that is where I have the problem. We all talk about this game being realistic. Well, that is not realistic. Home sides move quickly. In every league.
Whether it is one touch passing or long balls, they look to move the ball faster than the Away team and make things happen. They pressure the Away team. Throw ins are quick, passing is quick, movement is quick. And, if they don't play like that, they are getting the hairdryer at the break.
Yes, there are exceptions to this rule, but, generally, the home team in a reasonably even match is going to look to play a quick, pressure style.
Sometimes, it is not going to work and you are going to get snakebitten. But I am finding this is happening just a bit to frequently for my liking.
Trying to find the right mix to do this has been really tough.
Playing a 442 w/ short farrows now.
Wingers having very attacking mentality.
Keeper and D Cs are lower than rest of the team.
Here are my current team instructions for the rest of them:
Poolz Home
Just curious if anyone has really managed to find a quick home tactic that works b/c I am finding it really frustrating. I really do not want to revert to my Away style (sit back and hit them on the counter) at Home, but I may have to. Hey, the AI keeps doing it to me...
