This is my list of players I've seen people either buy or recommend to me in the new Football Manager game (2008). I've looked all of them up and decided to write down my brief findings for you all to see.
I haven't bought any of them as of yet, so this is purely just from looking at their profiles. I'd love for you guys to reply to my post and tell me of any experiences you've had with these players, or any other players you can recommend - all good comments will be added to my original post !
• Rafael van der Vaart (HSV - Valued 7.75 mil) = 24. AMC. Have to pay around 13 mil for him. Excellent reviews from many players, especially those playing as Spurs. Strongly recommended.
• Sergey Ignashevich (CSKA Moscow - Free) = Good CB and RB, best bargain of game one a free from start.
• Bruno Mezenga (Flamengo - Valued 2.2 mil) = Striker. 18 years of age. Media tipped him as next Adriano. Possible one for future ?
• Breno (Sau Paulo - Valued 1.7 mil) = Central Defender. 17 years of age. Possible one for future ?
• Jonathan Franks (M’Boro - Valued 1 mil) = Right winger. 17. English. Future prospect.
• Alex (Vasco - Valued 50k) = AML/R/C/FC. 17. Cheap. TIPPED AS NEXT RONHALDIHNO. Possible buy for future.
• Lucas Trecarichi (Sevilla C - Valued 500k) = Available to offer contract, Sevilla get 500k compensation if you sign him. He’s 16, good stats for a 16 year old. Definite one for future.
• Diego Capel (Sevilla - Valued 3.1 mil) = 19. Left Winger. Perhaps too expensive for his stats. Heard he performs well though.
• Ismael Aissati (PSV - Valued 3.2 mil) = 18. AMC/L. Same as above.
• Peter Halmosi (Plymouth - Valued 400k) = 27. DL/AML. Could be a good addition to squad.
• Mbark Boussoufa (Anderlecht - Valued 1 mil) = 22. Good stats. AMC/L. Looks a good buy.
• Daniel Carvalho (CSKA Moscow - Valued 2.2 mil) = 24. AMC/L. Stats aren't great, heard his contract is running out and he becomes available to Approach around Christmas. Probably best to wait till then.
• Ever Banega (Boca Juniors - Valued 875k) = 19. Defensive Midfielder. Good stats for young player. Probably requires permit, although not sure
• Augusto Fernández (River - Valued 350k) = 21 years old. AMC/R. Stats aren't bad, definitely one to look at.
• Iago (Barcelona - Valued 1.4 mil) = 17. AMC/R. Similar type of player as RONALDINHO. One to look at for future.
• Damián Escudero (Vélez - Valued 120k) = 20 years old. AMC/L. One to look into for future
• Igor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscow - Valued 3.8 mil) = Heard you have to pay 12mil+ for him. Although he's only 21, he’s been very highly rated by other players. If Robbo is performingly badly for you, look into him.
• Luka Modric (Dinamo - Valued 1.6 mil) = 21. AMR/C/L. Decent stats, bought by many players. Good buy.
• Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax - Valued 3.3 mil) = 22. DM. Decent stats, possibly not worth money, similar to Zokora, THudd. Have a look if you like though
• Mika Ääritalo (Turun Palloseura - Valued 50k) = 21. AMR/L. Great reviews, must buy. Young aswell. WONDERKID.
• Ivan Rakitic (Schalke - Valued 2.1 mil) = 19. AMC. Starts aren't bad at all, worth looking into. Perhaps.
• Anton Sosnin (Zenit Peterburg - Valued 40k) = 17. AMC. Stats aren't great. May be worth looking into for future though, as cheap and young.
• Sérgio Mota (Sãu Paulo - Valued 375k) = 17. AMC/L. Possible one for future. 16 at Free Kicks already.
• Tomas Sivok (Udinese - Valued 1.6 mil) = 23. Defensive Midfielder. Stats are decent, perhaps worth a scout to have a look.
• Fernando Belluschi (River - Valued 3.1 mil) = 21. AMR/C. Stats aren't bad, worth a scout.
• Leonardo Ponzio (River - Valued 2.2 mil) = 25. DMC/R. And MC/R. Not great, been recommended but doesn't look a peach. Maybe worth looking at
• Charles-André Doudin (La Chaux-De-Fonds - Valued 325k) = 20. Striker. Decent stats, deffinately worth the cheap fees.
• Christopher Samba (Blackburn – Valued 400k) = 23. DR/C. Been rated better than Dawson, can pick up for around 1.1 mil. Decent buy.
• Henri Saivet (Girondins Boardeaux – Valued 0) = That’s right, 0. He’s valued at nothing, he’s 16, a striker with decent stats for his age. Can pick up for 400k compensation if you approach to sign him, excellent for under 18s and a future prospect. Recommended
• Nacer Barazite (Arsenal – Valued 14k) = 17. AMC. Great stats for youngster. Stick him in the under 18s, great prospect, cheap.
• Pablo Piatti (Estudiantes – Valued 45k) = 18. AMC. Not sure if eligible for under 18s in first season, stats look good though. Worth a punt if you like youth players for future
• Adrien (Sporting CP – Valued 120k) = 18. MC. Can pick up for about 1.5 mil. Same as above for rest.
• Renato Augusto (Flamengo – Valued 2.9 mil) = 19. Good stats. AMR/L/C. Been told he goes for 8 mil+ so not worth that much, but if you can get lucky and pick him up for around his value then he’s a definite buy.
• Juan Manuel Mata (Valencia Mestalla – Valued 3.2 mil) = 19. AML/C. Great stats for his age. Been told he’s impossible to buy from start but give it a season or two and maybe …..
• Per Weirauch (Chelsea Reserves – Valued 775k) = 19. Right Wing. Worth 775k but Chelsea only want 75k. Good buy for reserves and has a re-sale value. Cheap
• Género Zeefuik (PSV – Valued 110k) = 17. Striker. Stats not bad, relatively cheap. Decent buy for Under 18s, Reserves, and future.
• Victor Moses (Crystal Palace – Valued 0) = 16. AMC/FC. Approach to sign, and give Palace the 170k compensation. Decent buy for under 18s, but there’s better out there.
• David Mendes da Silva (AZ – Valued 2.3 mil) = 24. DM. Not bad, worth scouting, have a look. Goes for around 4.5 so perhaps that money could be better spent
Staff:
1. Hire Vincenzo Pincolini as First Team Coach
2. Offer Chis Ramsey a new contract as a coach (so he can train the 1st team squad as well as the youth) as he's a 7 star coach in tactics.
Likewise John MacDermott for shooting.
Pincolini is 7 stars for Attacking,
Jon Dalzell is 7 stars for Strength & Aerobic.
I've hired John Philippe Durand as a scout.
3. Moniz for Ass.Man, offer Hughton Coach.
Training Schedules:
Here are three schedules I've found, I take no credit or responsibility for these links.
Mentality - Defensive
Creative Freedom - Normal
Passing Style - Direct (should be mentioned that the players have different instructions)
Tempo - Quick
Closing Down - Often
Time Wasting - Rarely
Defensive Line - Normal
Tackling - Normal
Focus Passing - Mixed
Marking - Zonal Marking
Target Man Supply - Mixed
Passing Style:
DC = Direct
WBR/L = Mixed
DMC = Mixed
MC = Mixed
AMR/L = Short
FC = Short
Tight Marking is ticked.
Target man, playermaker, play offside, counter attack are not ticked.
The AML and AMR positions do not have arrows.
The MC positions do have forward arrows.
The WBL and WBR do not have forward arrows.
The two DC's have tight marking ticked.
The DMC has 'free role' ticked.
The FC has tight marking ticked.
All defenders have 'little' creative freedom. The MC's are on 'normal' along with the AMR/L.
The FC is set to much.
Many of the goals scored are right down the middle - with interchanging passing between the two MC's and the FC.
Having the DMC as a free role is working ok at the moment (allowing him to sweep up) but would be interesting to see how it works without that option. Obviously, the better the DMC - the more success. Its a vital position.
Having the tempo quick is working a treat.
Also need to possibly remove 'tight marking' from the FC - though he generally causes havoc, but as a lone striker hasn't scored an abundance. Maybe allowing him more freedom will allow him more goals. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has given instructions such as 'free role' or 'hold up the ball' to their striker. As mentioned, he is on 'much' for creative freedom - which gives excellent assists record.
Firstly, just like to say it's bloody annoying that I can't edit my posts due to the fact that:

But anyway, back on-topic.
Here's my updated version of my Staff Section, if a mod reads this could you put the folliwng in my original post, cheers .

4. Promote Ricardo Moniz to Ass.Man, and demote Hughton to Coach
5. Here's the cool bit .
Ok, click on the "Training - Senior" tab down the left hand side of your Team Screen. Next, click on the coaching tab underneath it on the left hand side.
Now, first, click on Chris Hughton. On the right hand side you'll see a bunch of boxes ticked with the things he's coaching. Untick all of them except Defending, this should give you 5 stars in defending (as Hughtons pretty crap but at least he's ok at Defending).
Do the same for Ricardo Moniz, make him do Ball Control only - Yes his attacking is 20 aswell as Technical, but you'll see later on that having Pincolini doing Attacking only will mean that Moniz doing it doesn't affect the stars at the bottom of the screen, so he may aswell just do Ball Control to boost it up.
So, as I said, set Pincolini on just attacking.
Then Chris Ramsey for Tactics
Likewise John MacDermott for shooting.
And finally, Jon Dalzell for Strength & Aerobic.
I've put Clive Allen on Set Pieces as no-one else is and 4 stars is better than nothing but you might wish to bring in a coach for them instead. I recommend Donogh Holohan and/or Inaki Saez.
van der vaart has been amazing for my ac millan team this season 18 goals in 13 games hes got the most assits aswell in my opion he is amazing player. i managed to sign him for 21 million abit pricey but well worth the money im now in my 5 th season with ac.

4 Stars is average on FM08. Remember, stars go up to 7 now... In my spurs game I signed Sturing for defence, Holohan for ball control, Gunther for attack, Murtough for set pieces (although he was only 6 star), Paxton and Baran for fitness, Segers for goalkeeping and Davies for tactics.
