Leagues: Poofland (Conf N/S upwards), Jockland (Division Three upwards)
2005/2006: Lancaster City (Conference North)
In between teaching Frank more about LLM in FM2006, I decided upon Lancaster in the Conference North - despite them laying the wrong side of the Pennines I thought that with it being a city there'd be a catchment area for support in future years (if I lasted that long). Coupled with the fantastically named Giant Axe stadium, it was a winner.
The scout is put to great use and he finds me 18 players to sign on frees: most of which play a key role in securing a surprisingly easy championship. Special praise should be reserved for 28-goal striker, rock-solid 'keeper/centre-back, superb wingers and young centre midfielder.
Media Prediction: Relegation
Board/Fans Expectations: Battle bravely against relegation
League: 1st (promoted)
FA Cup: Out in 4th Round Qualifying to Scarborough
FA Trophy: Out in 3rd Round to Crawley
2006/2007: Lancaster City (Conference National)
Massive interest in centre-back signed last season on a free, and I can't help but accept a bid of £925k from Palace (+50% sell-on and friendly). This makes the club's finances secure for a long time (despite making a profit last season anyway), meaning I don't have to sell anyone else EVER if I don't want to. Realism? I think not. (As reported in Bugs Forum, same player is then farmed out on loan - not a problem - but then Palace put an asking price of £5k on him. I make a bid solely to see their reaction, and it is accepted without hesitation. Bah. I cancel the offer and hope nobody else buys him for this price)
A season of struggle is anticipated by board and media alike. Seeing how cohesive a unit I had last term, I don't exactly agree and feel mid-table should be achievable. A stupifying first-half of the season means the team go 22 unbeaten after losing the first game of the season, and sit top by a ten point cushion at the half-way point of the season. The second half doesn't have much more in the way of drama, and we finish top, largely unchallenged.
Striker keeps banging them in, the 'keeper has another blinder and the right winger becomes the most important player in the team. A left winger is promoted from the youth team and goes on to get man of the match in most reserve/under-18 games in an impressive breakthrough. As an aside, we top both the Reserves and Under-18 leagues as well.
Bradford City sack Colin Todd. I apply. They say no, taking on a former England, Marseille, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City and Falkirk right winger instead.

Club goes professional in the summer. Scout finds a few frees of note - in particular, a young ex-Chelski striker and a Lithuanian centre-back. A Rwandan (!) left-wing/striker is snapped up in a swap deal from Carlisle. A centre midfielder from Crawley finally decides he wants to sign for me for a record £80k (he knocked me back three times last year, but league football and a professional setup proves too much for him now). Young centre-back at Palace moves on for £275k, meaning I get another £130k from him. Despite this, the club moving to professional status is now haemorraging money badly (no TV money this year?) so I have a clear-out to lower the wage bill if nothing else.
Christmas comes and we sit in second in the league. The ride is nowhere near as easy this time around, although the team is playing extremely well in nine out of the eleven postions on the field - the scout just can't seem to find decent full-backs. Despite this, we win the league again, as do the Reserves and Under 18s. There's something not quite right about this, but I decide to continue anyway to see how long this seemingly invincibility lasts.
The first media speculation comes in linking me away from the club, to Wrexham and to Carlisle.

Good stuff Wizzle. You've rekindled my interest in my Cambridge game (also doing well in L2). The only thing I know about Lancaster is the bomber named after it.
BTW, re Frank: Do you think it's worth me pointing out that if people think Weymouth is easy, then what about Venezia in Serie C2? Dead easy, them. About 3 years ago Frank actually bestowed Florentia Viola on me.

There was some discussion here about it at the time. I think it was Ian who advised me to take Frank's suggestion. I ended up ignoring both he and Frank and went with Yeovil.
