Default The earth is slow, but the ox is patient

Well, maybe not so patient and maybe the earth isn't as slow as I thought when I thought up this title a month ago.

Anyway, large database, normal detail on all leagues, all divisions in Poofland, top two divisions in Jockland, Germany, Italy, Holland, Spain and Aussie A-League.

2005/06 -- ECN / CON

Started out at Stafford Rangers. Not a bad club. Rocketed to the top of the ladder and stayed there. Had the uneasy feeling that my grandkids could probably manage this side and win easily, so was relieved when in mid-season an ailing Cambridge Utd offered me the job of saving them.

So off I went. I couldn't tell for the life of me how they got relegated with the squad they possess. The club was 500k in the red, bleeding 50k a month. I had 17 games to get them from 20th to a top half finish. Did so. Managed to rack up 10 wins, 4 draws and finish 8th. Stafford got promoted with 10 games to spare.

2006/07 -- CON

Brought in 11 new faces for 4k and offloaded 17 players for 90k. Would have liked to have kept some, but the wage bill was crippling the club. The board wanted a respectable league position, but anyone with half a brain could see that the only only way the club could survive is by getting promoted.

Started well. Added West Ham to the long list of the U's illustrious pre-season scalps. A narrow loss in the first game against Weymouth set the tone for the first two thirds of the season. In Feb I decided to taunt York about their relegation chances and then they promptly beat us 6-0. That was an emotional time. It was also the last game we lost that season. Got into the playoff final and won (with a goal in the 113th minute of extra time). Tense.

Final standings: finished 2nd, P46 W26 D9 L11. 4 points behind Weymouth. We lost both games against Stafford (embarrassing). Built a nucleus of young, prodigious talent, but was going to find it hard to keep them, with the still terrible state of finances.

Cups suck @rse.

2007/08 -- L2

Was finding it really hard to hold on to some of my young stars, but a couple of premiership clubs came along and helped me out with that.

7 players in for 50K, 4 players out for 2.2 million. So that was the finances sorted out. The club was aiming to avoid relegation, but I wanted to gun for promotion and set about manipulating the media to raise everyone's expectations. Beat West Ham again in pre-season.

After losing the first game of season for the 3rd year running, we raced to the top of the table. Staying there was a challenge, what with Huddersfield, Scunthorpe, Wrexham and MK Dons constantly breathing down my neck.

Decided to throw the lesser cups and have a go in the FA cup. Managed the fifth round in the FA cup, but then Arsenal showed us why they're EPL champions and we're not. Still, we managed to hold our own for the first 21 minutes ... erm ... I mean seconds.

The end of the season was tough. MK Dons and ourselves were neck and neck for the 3rd automatic promotion spot. Our 3 last games were against the Dons and Huddersfield and Scunthorpe who had already achieved promotion. We beat Huddersfield and Scunthorpe and the Dons beat us. Clinched promotion by a point. Relief.

In keeping up the practice of manipulating the media, I told a journalist I was very optimistic about out League One prospects. The players aren't so optimistic and now I have a player revolt to deal with.

Ah. I was wondering if anyone would notice. No, I'm not a Magpies supporter. I'm an Eagles man. Please don't mention this year's grand final. 4 points. And a lucky mark at the end.

Oh my goodness, as a Dockers fan I don't think I can talk to you anymore

Due to the fact we didnt make the finals(again) I think I'll let things rest.

I thopught Mick's quote was from the time he was in the west but your location made me doubt myself.

GL with the save.

I'd rather miss the finals entirely than lose the grand final by 4 points.

You guys should do better once you get rid of Farmer and that bumbling coach.

I'm actually one of those (or maybe I'm the only one) who reckons 6.0.2 isn't so easy, as everything was going well until the effects of 6.0.2 really kicked in. I think those effects were that unlike the expected 20 minute 2nd half period of dominance, the AI teams were just dominating me for the entire game or more often than not, throwing up that ultra defensive formation at me. Hard to beat easily, but I notched up several 1-0 victories and 1-1 draws. It got to the point where I'd thump the air just to get a fecking goal and then give the computer the finger. Arsenal were the only team that was prepared to attack all game, so I didn't mind losing 3-1 to them.

Stafford Rangers are one of the better sides Ox. They currently top the Conference North in real life, though Northwich Victoria & Nuneaton Borough do have games in hand because of their cup runs.
