The Sims 2 doesn't require much ram (relatively), but the complex AI involved in character interaction pushes your cpu up to 100% usage. FM has complex AI as well, but The Sims 2 has to run in real time at at least 30 fps.

The ironies of IT. For science, engineering and business you don't need much more than a Centrino laptop. But for playing games you need a honking superbeast.

When processing results, FM will also push your CPU to 100% usage. Memory wise, it will "only" use about 200MB max, if you have that free. If not, things will really slow down.

I had to upgrade my RAM to 4 GB not because a game. But maybe my doing engineering is a bit more than creating a website with a homepage creator.

Valid. One of my clients runs geological-type software that requires enormous amounts of RAM.
