After perusing this forum for a while I decided to take up the Challenge offered to me By Welling United, one of my local non league clubs.
Season 1 Conf South
Things were'nt looking good when I took over, with the board and fans looking to avoid relegation so I took my axe to 12 players which brought in a whopping £110'000 and bought in 14 players for a total of 7k. The bank were happy, I had a balance of 190k at the end of the season.
I somehow managed finish 5th thanks to my mean defence and star striker (16 in 30)to get promoted in my first season through the playoffs, beating Eastbourne Borough 2-1 AET, result! Shame my cup exploits weren't as good losing to lower league teams in both cups
I decided to trust my players that got me promotion,though strengthening slightly but did fill my u18 squad with cast offs and rejects from league clubs.
One of these decisions proved to be the wrong one! Yep I shouldnt have trusted my players!! We struggled all the way through the season not helped by not winning a game for 17 matches, We did rally towards the end of the season though, going on a 5 match unbeaten run, unfortunately this did not help as we didnt get enough goals, culminating in us finishing 4th bottom with 42 points and a GD of -31 saving Kidderminster who had the same number of points but had a GD of -29. Ironic really as I had turned down their job offer earlier in the season! (the only offer I received I hasten to add!)
We didnt even have the cup to blame as we got knocked out in the early stages of both again, leaving us to try to concentrate on the league. Still the board and fans love me, and that is all that matters, as they both praise the fighting spirit I have instilled in the club!
The bank manager wasn't overly pleased though as we lose 50k over the course of the season.
My u18s I hear you ask, Oh they won their league by ten points, winning 22 out of the 24 matches they played.
Oh well back to the regionals I go. Out go 9 players on frees, and up come my U18s into the 1st team squad. My u18s again filled with rejects.
The board and fans expecting me to challenge & I begin to wish I took the Kiddy job last season. Things start well though and my young upstarts go on a 12 match ubeaten run, which included Yeading and Histon being gubbed, conceding 13 between them. Then the cups take over, distracting my players, and we lose one then go on a run of draws. This was to prove costly come the end of the season. I lose my top scorer to Livingstone on a free, (though if he scores 40 I get 500k!)
In the FA cup we again get knocked out in the 1st round. losing 3-0 to Northampton, Though we really go on a run in the Trophy, despatching all in front of us including Dagenham, Billericay and St Albans as we reach the Semi finals, losing to Stevenage over 2 legs.
Back in the league more big wins as we try to play catch up to Braintree. Things don't quite work out and we eventually finish 2nd with 74 points to Braintrees 82 and its back to the play offs.
Unfortunately my love affair with the play offs comes to an end as we lose 4-2 over 2 legs to Farnborough consigning the Mighty Wings to another season in Conf South. Hopefully my players will be more batttle hardened and take the league on. Will be harder though as we are due to be up against the likes of Gravesend & Canvey. I shall have a mooch in the freebies to see if there is any experience top help my young team

Well I am halfway through season 4. Pre season I decided that a cull was in order as I was annoyed that we blew promotion against a team we had beaten twice in the league already. And what a cull it was!! no fewer than 28 players left Park View Road for a total of £160k proving there is no sentiment in football, and in came 18 players for nominal fees or frees to boost my squad. My scouts seemed to have done a good job, my 2 strikers so far have scored 30 goals between them and its still January! We are currently well placed in 3rd place, 9 points behind hated local rivals Gravesend (hated by me anyway after reading what Their manager had to say to teh press about me!) with a game in hand and we are in the 3rd round of the FA Trophy. The FA Cup sucked arse though and we got knocked out in the 4th Q by Redditch
No to catch up with those Pikies and consign them to the play offs!
