It's nothing personal - I'd dismantle my won son's team if promotion were on the line.

Nothing wrong with winning a son. It happens a lot. Especially when you "play" a lot.

Rep Power: 0 | Wigan Athletic MID-SEASON UPDATE – 2010/11
Well, Wigan Athletic continue to exceed my expectations and we currently sit comfortably in 3rd at midseason well behind formidable Pompey and Derby County but nicely positioned for the playoff in the EC. My two lads from Alfreton are not so good at this level, but competent, and a couple of nice purchases have bolstered a team that can readily beat the relegation battlers, even if we scrap for every point every week.
My wage budget is in hand and we will have a positive balance sometime next season (by my reckoning) if we can stay up, which looks promising. A good FA Cup run may speed that a bit. Speaking of which...
The FA cup 3rd round draw saw me pull mighty Arsenal (what a way to start the road to Wembly) but an amazing performance from one of my Alfreton boys (yes, the one we scouted ourselves and I brought along) saw a hat trick and a 4-3 win on 94 minutes. I know this is bragging, but it brings me to my point: The day following the match I have been offered the Ireland job (I’m Irish), on the strength of (I suspect) our performance against the Gunners.

I honestly don’t know about the realism here – I was a bit young for Wigan but they were (and are) in financial trouble and were only about 13 (or whatever it was) places above me (being in very real danger of relegation to L2) so I figured they were willing to take a chance and I thus took it, telling myself that it’s not the most unrealistic thing for a club to hire an adventurous up-and-comer when their world is crashing down.
The Ireland job, however, may be a bit much and I wish to hear your opinions. I’m 42 (in the game) and have a good record. Ireland is hardly a world-cup powerhouse but they are occasionally second round material (IRL). Would it be unrealistic for me to take the job? I think it perhaps might, but I’ve always wanted it and I might tell myself that the Irish F.A. is desperate for someone to turn them around and that they feel a change of blood and a younger face may be in order. They’ve not gotten out of a qualifying stage in WC or Euro since I started this game.
Thus, I ask the LLM community. Should I take the job or is this a bit of a violation for the LLaMa code of realism.
Opinons?

It's your game...it's your fun. Having said that, I don't think it's all that unrealistic. I'm not a LLaMA historian and I'm relatively new to this world so forgive me for opining...but it would seem that taking a chance on a 42 year old with good credentials wouldn't be out of the ordinary for a County struggling to find their way internationally. What do they have to lose.
I say go for it...with a pint of Murphy's and a dram of Jameson.

END SEASON UPDATE - 2010/11
Thanks butlerjrt - I justified it to myself and took the Ireland job. Shouldn't have worried as they are so dismal and injury prone I have no worries of making the quarter-finals in the European Cup. At Wigan we saw a fine finish with a great 9 match run bring us to second, securing promotion behind one-defeat Portsmouth and ahead of Derby County, whom won the playoff to come up as well.
With the EPL looming, Ireland play through Euro-quals was lackluster. I need three solid wins in my final four to secure a place, but Holland is on that list and trounced me thoroughly in my previous match as national boss.
Wigans wages are ok and finances are now secure (thanks to the EPL money) but the squad is dramatically outclassed on paper - time will tell, but I'll consider myself lucky to stay up. With a £2.5 million transfer budget and a maximum single player cap of £37,500/month, I'm not likely to get the quality to do much more than eke out a (hopefully) 16th position finish.
Bring on 2011/12 and the European Cup!

OK, been buy and only had a chance to play about 8 matches in this season. That said, I don't want this thread to close and I don't know how long we have so I'm posting to keep it open.
Cheers.
