| Correct. Very tricky. Next div is easier, but the large financial gap between top clubs and also-rans in the Premier makes it tough to take a regional side all the way to the top.
I had a lot of fun there, though - check my Instant Llama thread. [/shameless plug]

| In Norway it is really simple. Win your division - get promoted. Second placed team doesn't get anything. Four groups, four winners, four teams get promoted. On the other hand... In the first division (known as Adeccoligaen) you have the four bottom teams who get relegated. Not that funny when your team is filled with half-wits and none of them can kick a ball.
Good thing they don't have 3. division in the game. There they have playoffs for all the group-winners, and no direct promotion.

| Yes.
The reason I'm asking is that the rules state that the top 4 from each of the 6 regional 2nd divisions win promotion to the 1st Division, which doesn't appear to run during the March-November season, and the bottom 3 teams from the First Division Elite are relegated, though it's not specified where.
This is somewhat confusing for someone who knows nothing about the structure of Swedish football. But thanks for the help.

That's quite confusing to anyone who can count, tbh. By that description, they're promoting 24 teams and relegating 3
At least you're more or less guaranteed promotion after a couple of years as all the teams will be in the top flight
I know nothing about Sweden, but I'm going to guess there's something that's not been included in that description |

I know nothing about Sweden, but I'm going to guess there's something that's not been included in that description | There's the Premier League, First Division Elite, First Division and the regional Second Divisions.
The top 4 teams in all the regional second divisions get promoted to the First Division (which doesn't appear to be run during the regular season), and the bottom 3 of the First Division Elite are relegated.

tbf, the rules for some of the leagues in FM05 were pretty flawed - Hong Kong was one in particular. Hopefully, it has improved for 06.

Rules about the Swedish leagues are tricky as they change after the first season.
If you started at early 2005 you would notice that there are only 3 levels; however from 2006 on there are 4 playable levels in the game.
So the best teams from the regional second divisions together with the worst teams from the Superettan (First Division Elite) to form the newly First Division. If I recall correctly there is even some sort of play-off between the different winners of the regional second divisions for a place in the Superettan.
Sort of.
From the next season on things will calm down.

| Right, so had I started in 2006, it would have been fine.
Cheers!

| I'll echo this and add a bit more information.
Basically if you win your region in the second division (6 regions) you face one of the other region winners over two legs to jump straight into the First Division Elite (bypassing the newly formed First Division North/South in 2006). Lose the playoff match and you only move up to the First Division North/South.
If you finish 2nd-4th in your region you're promoted to the First Division North/South. Whereas if you finish 5th you move into a league (Second Promotion) with two other sides that finished 5th in the other regions (two groups of 3). You play each side twice and so long as you don't finish bottom in your group you're also promoted to the First Division North/South.
After the first season you have to win your region in the Second Division to be promoted to the First Division North/South.
I'll stop there as I can feel a headache coming along |

Cool - so I've inadvertantly made it easier for myself to reach the top?
The Swedish league seems suprisingly easy so far - won 6/6 scoring 28 goals in the process, without any signings.
