I think the win-a-title-a-year run is over now.
After QUB won in the first QR of the CL Skewen Athletic (anyone knows them?) offered me the job after I applied to it (it's a step dow... no wait... 3 steps down ) so without a doubt I accepted their offer and packed my bags and left to Wales.
When I looked at the 15 players (including 1 goalie)I had I started wondering why the board expected me to stay clear of relegation. When I saw that there were 0 directors, 0 coaches, 0 ass. managers, 0 scouts an 0 physios I knew I made a mistake in moving to Wales A scout, ass.manager and coach were rapidly signed, a physio followed them 2 days later.
When I saw the stadiumcapacity I laughed and laughed and laughed, the Tennant Park stadium holds [b]750[/] people

Skewen Athletic? I played a friendly (pre-arranged for game start) against them in my new Worcester City game. Bloody computer, I'd rather have had skewed kebabs.

I always try to finish a season with a club, so if I should take another job I have the time to look through the squad, sign some new players and get rid of the dead wood. So when I joined Skewen Athletic in the Welsh Premier I was determined to do as good as possible. Since there was no money and I needed extra players and I really needed an asistent, coaches and a scout I kind of promised myself to stay here a couple of seasons at least :p
The season started of better then expected, way better... We were tipped as relegation battlers, but after 9 games we were topping the table  I was already celebrating my 5th title in a row, but then a dip came and we dropped to 5th place. Didn't care that much since 5th place isn't a relegationbattle.
But then, march 23th, I got offered a job to become the manager of Emmen in the Dutch First Division. Since it's my hometownclub I immediatly accepted the offer and left Wales after just 247 days.
Emmen was in 12th place when I joined them with just 8 games left to play. I managed to get up to 8th, just outside the play-offs. Season 2008/9, QUB, Skewen, Emmen
QUB: (day I left)
League, League Cup and Irish Cup didn't start yet
Champions League: qualified for 2nd QR
Skewen: (day I left)
League: 5th
Welsh Cup: 2nd round
League Cup: reached final
Emmen: (end of season)
League 8th
Cup: they did reach the semi final, but lost that one just before I joined.
Final position QUB: 5th
Final position Skewen: 7th, they did lose the League Cup final

Had a few seasons in the dutch leagues before my Brazilian save, give you plenty of scope to get a fairly decent squad and challenge for things.

The Emmen board must read these forums. But the must have missed that thread where you couldn't locate the place |

After last seasons 8th place I decided I want to finish at least one place higher so we'd enter the play-offs. Board wanted me to finish at a respectable league position.
After e normal start to the season Emmen and AZ were quickly rising above the other teams. The week before we'd first meet (away to AZ) we both were in 1st place, only difference was our goaldifference wich was in my advantage. Sadly we lost that crucial match, meaning we dropped into 2nd place. The next 2 games only gave us 2 points, after that we'd picked up again and started chasing the Alkmaarders again.
By the winterbreak we were both on top again, again it was decided on goaldifference.
So by the time AZ came to Emmen it looked like that was the championshipdecider. We won 1-0 and took 1st place, then AZ started to lose more and more points, so after 33 games the title was mine \o/ AZ promoted through the play-offs, so we'll meet again Season 2009/10, Emmen
League: 1st, 36-82
Dutch Cup: quarter final
Now, let's see what the Dutch Premier Division will bring us |
