This is not a normal LL update, in this LL update I have decided to go on holiday until the beginning of the 2013/2014 season. Then I started as a new manager and took over a club who was new and not in the Con Sth nor Con Nth during the 05/06 season.
The above, I assume, is the 'interesting' part. Whether it is of interest to everyone however, is, obviously, debatable.

For what it's worth SS, I find it interesting.

It'll be interesting to see how far you can take a non-league side and whether things like stadium expansion will be restricted by the club's former non-league status. KUTGW.

But...

- It's been done before

- How does it differ from starting a game with a club in the Conference regionals (and maybe using made up players to simulate the effect of 10 years of retirements)?

- How does it differ greatly from taking ten years (or more) to take a team to the top, and then taking a job back with a club at the bottom, which many of us frequently do?

Whilst it's a reasonable update, it's not really for the author to decide whether it's interesting or off the beaten track.

You will have to talk to Steve Davis (snooker player naming) the nugget will explain.

Fair enough, but newer members of the forum may not have seen previous updates. It's also possible that aspiring LLaMas take inspiration from long-time LLaMa's updates (I know BoroPhil's TNS game inspires me to try something similar with my local team). You, yourself, may have helped create some of these monsters invading your forum.

It differs, because it doesn't do this, it does what the poster actually did...

It differs in that it doesn't take ten years (or more) to take charge of a non-league club. Whether that's true LLM or not, you would indeed be the better judge than me.

True, but don't you think you're being a little hard on a first time poster? You may have put him off...

That's exactly why I'd advise every new member to read first before posting.

I'm pretty new here, too, but in what meaningful way does the OP's use of the word "interesting" detract from an otherwise quite tolerable update? Is it in relation to the number of people who have previously performed similar LL careers or is it, instead, that you didn’t find the entire thing interesting? Either way, your statement that it is not up to the OP to decide what is interesting is megalomania of the highest order.

I suspect that your objections lie elsewhere – in the ridiculous self-appointed status of “super LLM lawmaker and guru” that many of the LLM community have claimed as their divine right. Failure to read the header and violating forum rules is one thing; mean-spirited nit-picking is quite something else.

I recognise (as do regular LL forum readers) that many of you take pride in your status as long-time members and that some of you take a special point of pride in belittling newcomers as a matter of principle, but I find this particular complaint to be utterly pedantic and wholly designed with nothing more in mind than further degrading the tone of respect such a community could otherwise be known for.

What is interesting to some may not be of interest to others, and thus I would argue that it is not up to any particular reader to define the word “interest” either.

For the love of anything holy, lay off – if it will make you feel better, I, at least, will acknowledge that you are far superior – you are the King of the Forum, Lord of the Dance and the Sultan of Swat. Happy? I hope so. Now maybe you can lay off the poor lad and sleep soundly at last, comfortable in the knowledge that you are wiser, cleverer and possessed of greater knowledge and experience than any and all other users.

Now go ahead and flame me – I think crap like this (which has been on the rise on the GQ and LLM forum, in my opinion) has finished me anyway.

Did you say that "lincoln" found their way into the premier league?!? even if none of this is real, it's still made my day. Thankyou very much

CntZer0,

You are guilty of taking me far too seriously.

To put in the title of your thread "interesting", "funny", "greatest" etc is only setting yourself up for a fall. If you are going to make a bold statement like that, you need to be able to back it up.

He's not stated why he's chosen to play the game the way he has - why not just take one of the clubs promoted to the regionals this season? Nothing makes it stand out from your average update (other than it is well written for a LLaMa newbie) apart from the statement "I have decided to go on holiday until the beginning of the 2013/2014 season".

I can do pompous with the best of them, I'll put my hands up to that, but you have to admit that if he'd just started at: Season 1 and left out the dates, absolutely nothing would make it stand out from other updates.

That may be, but this seems to be permeating the boards lately - lots of one-off remarks made, to my way of thinking, with the sole intention of ridiculing others. Endless attempts at derision permeate this (and most other) internet forums and it is, for some of us at least, quite exhausting. Here (in LLM) we all share (allegedly) the common interest of playing FM in a certain way – some make mistakes, some are quite dull and some are just trying to muddle through. Is this idea original? Perhaps not, but it is valid and it is (in light of the overwhelming majority of us that use Frank and start from day 1) not the norm.

Rather than offer encouragement, however, there exists a certain element that desires only to mock others. This may be the same tired joke over and over, but it has the net effect of creating a culture (albeit online) of cruelty – bullying if you will.

If I am taking this too seriously, then I stand so accused. I am tired, however, of the endless mocking tone that has grown in proportion here on the SI boards over the last several years. I lurked for years before registering and I recall a time when there were fewer darts – I’d like to see a return to a more civilised tone – especially here in the LLM community. Isn’t it enough that GQ users snipe each other as a form of lowbrow entertainment?

It’s my way of thinking and everyone can (and, rightly so, will ignore it), but I will continue to hope for better from all of us, myself included.

Return to business as usual – there must exist someone, somewhere on this board that has offered up a substandard update.

Cheers,

The Count
