The adventure began. The bookies, who usually get it right, had me down as relegation battlers and the board decided that a respectable position was required. I was given a 3 year deal and asked to make the club a permanent feature in the Blue Square North during this period. The first team seemed to be reasonable enough but the squad lacked depth. A number of trialists came in during pre-season and I made 4 signings and promoted a couple of promising youths to the first team set up.
A very positive start to the season saw 5 wins from the first 10 matches with only 2 defeats. As the season neared its end we were comfortably in the top 8 but the top 4 were in a league of their own leaving just one play off place with 3 other teams fighting me for this spot.
After a horrendous March, where I failed to win a game I slipped down to 8th before an unbeaten run took me back into contention. With 3 games to go we could still make the play offs but needed to win all 3 games to give us a chance. We faced 4th placed Blyth, 2nd placed Kettering and 2nd place Stalybridge and it seemed mission impossible with two matches away from home. A 2-1 win at Blyth, followed by a 1-0 win versus Kettering gave me 5th spot and I needed a win to book a play off spot.
With 86 minutes gone at Staly and Worcester winning at Hucknall, who were on the verge of leapfrogging me, my winger smashed home a loose ball and we held on for the 3 points! Staly ended up in 2nd despite the defeat and we faced them again in the play offs. A 0-0 home draw left us with it all to do but a 2-1 away win, with two late goals got us in the final, after one of those 'he didn't mean that' goals looked to have won it for the home side.
We missed a 4th minute penalty against Kettering in the final and never even got started. They won 2-0 but should have won by more and despite feeling delighted I made the play offs I was heartbroken to get so close to the promised land.
Finished 5th (lost in play off final)

A rubbish season with few highlights. Tipped by the bookies to be up there. The media thought so too. Poor start saw 4 defeats in first 10 games, having only lost 8 all last season. The hard to beat mentality was gone and the goals were drying up.
One bright spot was the emergence of my right winger who had bags of ability but did little to back that up last year. This year he was a revellation.
We climbed to 7th and at Christmas were only 4 points off play offs but we never got a run together. Every good win was followed by a poor defeat. We slumped to 12th come March with the play offs out of reach. A 5 game winning run put us upto 8th and we slipped a place to 9th by the end of the season which was disappointing given the league looked really weak. In fact had we have got the same points as last year we'd have finished 2nd this time round.
The cups were a joke as lost in first round of everything.

How I hate the playoffs.
The season started well with my new midfield pairing gelling well. We won 4 of first 6 and were in top 2 for most of the early part of the season.
December brought a slump but we were never out of the play offs and we went on a 14 game unbeaten run in the New Year which cemented a top 5 finish. The form dropped off a bit towards then end but it was easy enough.
Nuneaton romped the league with 2 players on loan from Coventry that are starting for Coventry in real life at the moment. One striker scored a ridiculous 38 times.
We faced Histon in the play offs and lost 4-0 at home after having 3 men sent off. We only had 4 sent off all season before this. We lost 3-1 in the return leg in which I had no hope of inspiring any off the players in.
Finished 3rd

I was in 8th in November when for some unknown reason my save failed to load. I think I may have turned the PC off while it was saving the night before (it was 3am or something) and my save is now completely gone. I am most upset after putting in 54 hours game time or something similar!!!
Unlucky, do you not have Incremental Auto Save turned on? I save every two weeks, the only problem is that my saved game folder contains 52gb of files!
You got promoted eventually though didn't you Lee?
How did you find the crowds and the board in your save?
In mine I was never given a budget despite being always in the black, which isn't surprising but the attendances dropped a lot each season regardless of success!
Jenninga, I noticed that you signed players in your first season that you had on trial during pre-season. How long did it take you to find your scout, as I've been waiting three months now and nobody has applied yet?
I placed an advert on day one for a scout and had two people apply of which I chose one. This may have been a week or two I am not sure. But I had the trialists in towards the end of the fixtures. I also started the season in June (in line with another league I was running) which gives me more time to get my side sorted.
Lee,
Some weird things happened. After 2 years my board were delighted with the progress the club was making and this bar was nearly full. Into 3rd season it simply went back to middle of expectation even though it was a 3 year plan. I found the board to be a little fussy but overall a well run club.
