...this has happened to me A LOT...infact, several times, I've completely failed to notice it...only to find out at FT!!
I'm talking, of course, about that crucial time you're ready to make changes, at which point you'll pause the game and make the changes; only to be greeted by an opposition goal a split second after you've submitted your changes :thdn:
I'm a ''speed player'', as I only view commentary/no highlights etc when playing a match, so I reckon we, as a breed; The Speed player, are probably hit hardest when it comes to this...because at least the ''full match'' guys and gals have a chance to SEE the opposition take advantage and score, allowing this 'shock' to register more gently...whereas with me, it's the equivilant of running in a marathan, about to cross the winning line...only for a Euro Tunnel train to magically appear and head into my path at a rate of several hundred miles per hour
It annoys me, especially considering the psychological effects, because you've made the changes, you hope they're going to work when your teams takes them on board in the next stoppage in play. You know for a fact your team is playing crap, you're forced to take advantage, and the opposition ram that fact down your throat by punishing you in the ultimate way possible; SCORING |

Actually what annoys me is even after i submit my changes, the opponents can seemingly make 2 different substitutions, kick the ball out of play 5 times, replace an injured player, and take a penalty kick before my tactical changes actually go through.
Some of it makes no damn sense. Like i'll submit my sub, and then my team scores a goal. Surely i can make my sub now, right? Nope, other team makes a double sub, takes the kickoff, and earns two corners before i can make the sub i confirmed before i scored the damn goal!

This has always been a problem through the entire series. You can make your change, but the match engine seems to want to play through all its calculations it's already made before letting your change take place.
The ball going out of play has never meant that your new tactics will be applied.
It's really stupid and I can't believe it still happens this many games into the series.

Personally I preferred the old method where the game engine would stop. You would make you tactical changes / substitutions etc..., submit them and the game would make fresh calculations.
It does annoy me when I change things, submit them and the scores changed. Although it has gone in my favour a few times.

But, this is the first FM game you can make changes DURING the match, no?

Here's another one.
It's specifically mentioned in the Laws of the Game that a team is permitted to replace the goalkeeper for a penalty kick, and may then change back at the next stoppage. This is particularly useful if your goalkeeper is crap at penalties and you have a very athletic outfield player you can put in goal just for the kick.
Imagine trying to do that in FM!

I'm not sure if this is what's being aimed at, but when I go and watch Hull City there's always an amount of time (variable) between the manager making the choice to sub someone, and that sub going through. Sometimes the ball goes out once, twice, three times, with the fourth official ready with the board whilst Phil Brown is giving the player his instructions...
Just bear in mind that footballers need things explained to them slowly!!!

From what I understand, the match engine works in stages. It doesn't calculate the whole match in one go, just passages of play, including set-pieces.
S'why it keeps chundering along without implementing your tactical changes when there's a throw-in, corner, etc.
I'm not sure that chundering is actually a word, btw.

Chundering = aussie slang for puking.
The ME calculates the whole game before starting then recalculates when anything occurs.
The AI doesn't get to make subs between you doing so and the game stopping to apply your changes, the AI makes it's subs at the same time you do in these cases but they always get first mention in the commentary.
