Saw a news item yesterday that I haven't seen before. Was selling Tainio off to Birmingham, but since Birmingham were offering lower wages than we were paying, so the player demanded that we pay him the difference in compensation for the duration of his remaining contract with Spurs. I had to agree or else he wouldn't sign for the Blues.
I saw that once before in 07, I think. I was just glad to get rid of the player. If he's not playing at the moment, then at least you're paying less per week than you have been, and you get some transfer money.
Nothing new. This happened in 06 to me with Veron. I declined and let him rot in the reserves but with smaller clubs I agree that the small amount you pay towards wages is probably better than the full amount
