Just a quick one.

I've got a player who has been denied a work permit for a new contract. He's brazillian but is elligible for Spanish citizenship and is 'considering citizenship' because he's been there long enough.

I want to keep him, but if he doesn't take the spanish passport, I can't get him to stay.

I can't see any way to ask him to take an EU country so I can keep him.

What do I do?

If he doesn't get citizenship then you have to sell him really, though you could always include a buy back clause and try re-signing him. You could possibly get a work permit this way and if not try and set up a EU feeder club so that you can loan him out.

Don't really want to loan him out and shouldn't really need to because he's already allowed Spanish citizenship.

Can't sell him because he's out of contract at the end of the season and other clubs will just offer him a free transfer.

I'm going to try and play him in every game I can to see if I can get a permit (IRL they need to have played 75% of matches)

I hate work permits

Once tried to buy a veteran, Brazilian defender who had just left Burnley on a free. His work permit was turned down. I'm managing in England, so surely he doesn't need to apply if he played for Burnley?

He will.

As he is not a British citizen or EU citizen then the work permit was originally awarded for his previous employer (Burnley) based on his fulfilling of the required criteria at the time he signed for him. Once he left that employer then the whole proces sof ebing allowed to earn his living in this country needs to be assessed again for his prosepetice new employers. If he doesn't meet the required critieria then that permit has to be denied.
