I am a big admirer of the 5-3-2 system, yet it is nigh impossible to implement it successfully in FM07. The theory is that the somewhat defensive formation should allow an AM or DM (depending on your preference) a little bit of freedom to work his magic, but the matches never play out as one would expect. I've tried it with Man Utd, Everton, West Ham, and Villa with no great success. It seems, I am afraid, that the AI is set up perfectly to exploit it. Considering that the 5-3-2 is a defensive formation, it leaks an awful lot of goals, particularly down the wings. The wing backs are always out of position and the opposition winger is always in acres.
If anyone has had any success/advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I am a little concerned that 'non-traditional' formations have little success these days unless you are playing with an elite team. I always end up reverting to a 4-4-2 or a 4-5-1. Thoughts? Debates? Disagreements? Agreements?
