It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Setting one DC to close down more?

Ive been playing around with setting one DC to closed down (4 ticks right) and one less so (4 ticks left)

On the pitch view, its intersting, because when an attacking player approaches the defence, the DC goes forward, and the line stabalises quicker instead of a massed retreat as they all trot back as no-one is closing down. + the wing backs are in better shape to get the ball and distribute it if the DC makes the tackle.

Just a different approach really, not tested past a couple of matches yet.

Has anyone else tried this?

I've always played this way, its stops players going for the same balls then.

I use wingbacks and will definately have a look at this.

When you say "setting one DC to closed down (4 ticks right) and one less so (4 ticks left)", you mean from the middle right?

I currently use the pre-set centre back option, where I THINK the closed down option is greatly reduced.

Interesting approach ! I will try this when I get home from work.

did you notice any difference in rating between these two defenders ?

I suppose you use your more pacey defender to close down more often ?

I am still having some problems setting up the defensive line in combination with closing down, how do you guys do this ?

I'm pleasantly surprised that this method is working so far. I've conceded 1 goal in 14 games right now. I am going to test more, but it's looking ridiculously good at this point.

After conceding just one goal in 14 games, I ended up conceding 22 in a 38-game season.
I guess I conceded 21 goals in 24 games from that point on. Not sure if this D set up got cracked, but it wasn't as impressive as how it started out.
