Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Passing/tempo for home and away games

I've always used slow/short at home and fast direct passing away is this right?

This is my thinking behind it:

Home games i want as much possession as possible so i play short/slow, knowing i should have plenty of chances to score.

Away games i know i wont have much of the ball and i will get closed down a lot more, so direct /fast passing makes my player not dwell on the ball and i have my far share of shots.

Am i think about this all wrong or have i got it pretty much the same as you guys?

There isn't really a set way to play it in my opinion, it depends on your players. If you have top quality players, then you should still be able to dominate possession away from home (or at least match it so its 50% each). I usually play with the same passing style at home and away but just change my formation slightly, for example removing forward arrows or swapping one of my strikers for a DMC (I usually play a 4-4-2).

The only times I really change this is if I'm playing opposition far better than my side away, where I will also go counter attack with a high level of closing down.

So my advice would be, if you have high quality players, play the passing game that your team seems to perform best to (maybe very slightly longer when away if you really want to adjust this), and just change the defensive line slightly deeper, closing down a bit more, time wasting a little higher and maybe counter attack while you are away from home.

Different people play in different ways, so get some more opinions.
