I'm not a massive contributor to these forums, but using the vast tactical advice on this forum I've embarked on my best ever game with Southampton. It's now 2032 in my game, and my team is World Class. We are always favourites to win everything.

I've got a problem though...in the league, the team is suffocated to the point where I am close to jacking the game in. Every team I play, home and away, plays so negatively it's luck that I win. I can use outrageously offensive tactics, get 20 shots off on goal, but because I can't get anywhere near the opponents goal, they are all long shots and I'm lucky if I score once.

In Europe, I'm lights out. Dominate every team using the same tactis. Domestically though, I'm really stuck as to what to do. I'm not talking about your usual defensive teams - it's got to the point where I will play away to the team second in the league and they play 4-4-2 defensive against me, with two banks of four very very very deep. I've tried toning down the attacking mentalilty to get my players to take their time and only shoot when they get good chances, but that plays into the oppositions hand, and the game goes by with about 3 shots on goal in total.

How can I get over the 'park the bus in front of the goal mentality'?

Maximum Width, very slow tempo, wingers and FCs HUB, deep d-line (last notch of normal), short passing, CF high on wide players, normal on midfield/attack.

Thanks. Will give this a go. From what I can tell, this approach will rely on the superior ability of the players to prod and probe while still maintaining an attacking thrust. I'll report back on success.

Alternatively, and probably maintaining the same settings wwfan suggests you can have one striker run at defenders and cross ball. You'd get into a lot of dangerous positions on the flanks.

Currently @ work... so I can't try this myself right now, but I'm very interested if the given solutions are working.

I'm currently suffering from the same kind of problem with my tactic. Last season only lost 1 game in the leaguea and drew 3. That season i dominated almost every game and won everything easily, but this season even the biggest teams in the competition start with a 451 tactic (or something alike) against me (even when I play away from home).

It is very difficult to find an opening in their defense, because they all sit in front of their goal... so I'll have to rely on longshots and the other header that my strikers might win.

If you find you are losing agains the same tactic, such as the defensive 442, which is a common away formation, my advice is to design your own tactic that specifically counters this tactic
