I am going to start searching for a youth player to train into a top targetman at the end of my current season.
Assuming I buy a 17 year old, how good should I expect his Strength, Jumping, Heading, and Off the Ball be at that age?
Currently I have Beattie and a retrained Cahill as my Targetmen (Cahill only plays up front when Beattie is injured). With Beattie now 30 I want to have this new guy ready in 3 seasons. I was thinking 2 seasons of solid traing to get his stats up, then loan him out for 1 season before trying him in the First team.
What would be the best way to bring a young player on assuming I have beeter training facilities than the loan club will have and I want to try for 20's in each of his main stats?
johnsons potential ability obviously changes from game to game. One thing that is certain is that he is big fast and good at heading. His finishing is also good but is composure is low along with passing etc. gives him something to work on though.
for the 900k u get him for at the start of the game he can make an immediate impact. He was in my team that has just one the uefa cup in first season. Played 42 games and scored 45 goals for me in all competitions.
if a lower club gives him a full season then it is worthwile. But it depends how much ure willing to let him play in your first team. If u give him 15 odd starts a season along with a good number of sub appearances it will also do wonders for him.
They really just need to be playing everyweek in my experience.
Sometimes if u let someone go on load to early e.g. before they have developed enough they dont get a game and just rot away.
It all depends on what stage the player is at. reserves and under19s football, by selecting him for the teams is better than no football at all.
I think I am going to buy Eddie Johnson, assuming I get enough cash, and then do some kind of "Targetman Idol" program going!
Just going to sign every half decent looking young striker outside the prem and do something different with loan time and training with each one! One of them must turn out ok and I have plenty of budget to do it with!
I have him in my west ham save, he's banging them in for fun in the league/uefa cup/champions league he's currently netting ~30 goals/season. But remember he's not a clinical striker you will see missed shots last i checked he scored on ~20% of shots which is still better than most of my strikers... Harewood is around 10% and Tevez around 15%
Strange thing about him imo is that he has the move "places shots" and still manages to put it _over_ the stand from 4 yards from time to time
He is defeinitly class in every game, for any team. I dont know whats so special about him but he excels at the TM position. Better than Klose, Toni, etc. I believe (although debatable), and much cheaper :]
For a new targetman, you should find a striker who your scout tells you will be a "leading XX striker" and is above 6 foot tall with at least 15 in heading. Those strikers are the TM type and will more than likely (check jumping, strength, etc. to make sure it isnt a fluke) become great targetmen. In most games, Laurito is a great young targetman.
