You can believe me or not, but I dont have a pic to prove but I was second after 33 games with Real Betis in the first season before I got this stupid pop up that says "I clicked out of bounds" and after I clicked ok it quit the game and I havent saved in months. But, I think I can help the people who believe and will go on to read this. I havent had much success in this version, but I trid something new this time and it worked wonders. I am going to try this with a lower league team momentarilly.
Tactical Overview
I read a lot of tactical post on here but never really try them. Just read for fun. I follow my own beliefs. In my new tactical approach I still follow my won beliefs but I took a few ideas that I read in this forum and used them to twist my tactics a bit. First thing I did, is adjust the indivisual creative freedom and passing to suit the players. Those two were untouched in all 9 tactic version(except for two which I will discuss later) that I set up to suit all the situations I will be facing. Lets take a look at how I set it up.
Important Note: It takes a while to learn how to use these appropraitely. There is a lot of other factor that determine winning in Fm. Training, Team Talks, Media handling, and the before and during the match tactic tweaks that are important. These are up to you and cannot be taught. At least not in this topic. This is just about the basci set up of the tactics. Now lets get to it.
Tactic Versions
In Fm I believe that there are 6 different pre game situtations you face with any team. That is, 1. a weak team at home, 2. am average team at home, 3. a strong team at home, 4. a weak team away, 5. an average team away, and 6. a strong team away. I created three other tactics, Shut Up Shot, Defend Lead, and Late Goal which were helpfull as well. But first lets take a look at the primary six. Each one I set up with a different mentallity set, forward runs, cross/throuhg ball, and some check box in the team instructions. The def line, time-waste, and tempo adjusted along with it. I used the Rule of One and the def line/timewaste mirror theory to set it up. You can do it however you like.
Home vs. Weak
Mentallity: 13-20
Cross/Through balls: Often
Tempo: Slow=5
Ticked: Offside
Desc: Was used when I was up against teams such as Gimnastic and Levante
Home vs. Average
Mentallity: 8-15
Cross/Through balls: Often
Tempo: Slow=5
Ticked: Offside
Desc: Was used against teams such as Espanyol and Deporivo
Home vs. Strong
Mentallity: 5-12
Cross/Through balls: Mixed
Tempo: Slow=5
Ticked: Tight Marking, Counter Attack
Desc: Was used against teams such as Barca and Real Madrid
Away vs. Weak
Mentallity: 7-14
Cross/TB: Often
Tempo: Slow=5
Ticked: Offside, Tight Mark
Desc: Same Home vs. Weak
Away vs. Average
Mentallity: 5-12
Cross/Through balls: Mixed
Tempo: Slow=5
Ticked: Tight Marking, Counter Attack
Desc: Same as Home vs. Average
Away vs. Strong
Mentallity: 1-8
Cross/Through balls: Mixed
Tempo: Slow=1
Ticked: Tight Marking, Counter Attack
Desc: Same as Home vs. Strong
SUS, DL, and LT
I also created three other tactics for the end of the game that keep the goal safe and end the game quicker.
SUS
This one is good in the last 20 minutes of the game against team your better than. Has team instructions of slow tempo, short passing and high time waste.
DL: Means defend lead. Has insructions for long passing, fast tempo and high timewaste. Good against defending leads from stronger teams than you
LT: Could get you a late goal if you desperately need it. All it is is just the Home vs. Weak tactic with team mentallity pushed up to "All Out Attack".
Conclusion
I hope this topic helped. There have been similar ones to these before. I will test this further with a lower league team and will report back with result. Also feel free to tell us about you opinion and anything of you beliefs that can imporve this system. Will make this a tactical discussion topic as well.

2nd with Betis in 1st Season - Tactical Overview Post #2
Absolutely excellent post. I believe you when you say you have success because this approach looks like it would get success.
When you say yo adjusted passing to suit the players, what exactly do you mean by this?
I assume on the whole you had quite shortish passing as you have a very slow tempo in all these tactics. Do you get many shos on goal or (as I would think) do you get a few but often seem to score from them?

2nd with Betis in 1st Season - Tactical Overview Post #3
Thanks moggydave. What I mean is I did I quickly set up the passing, creative freedom, long shots, and run with ball to suit the players. In the spanish La Liga most attacking players have great passing, technique and first touch. Slow Tempo and short passing is the way to go in this league. Likewise in the Prem, where teams are full of pace, strength and stamina, a quick direct game is the way to go. So you are correct about that.
The other things is simply looking at your players. Rafael Sobis was unlike anyone else had hight freedom, a free role and run with ball because I can trust him. The rest were mixed. I had rere crossing for everyone ecpet the full backs, who were mixes, and everyone on mix trhoguh balls. Because the spnish game focues on the ball staying on the ground and this impoves the peformance of my highly technical playres who are small and weak so they woldnt have to battle in the air with defenders too much. In the prem, there would be more crossing and more through balls. Like I said, you have to put some of your own knowledge into the tactic. This is just the basic setup and to give you an idea of what is needed to succeed in this game. Hope it helps.

2nd with Betis in 1st Season - Tactical Overview Post #4
I don't mean to take anything away from the post )as it is clearly well thought out as are the tactics) but I've also found Betis a good team to challenge the top 2.
They suite my style of play very much - I don't get too tactically deep and like attacking football that centres around wide players with a lot of freedom, 2 forwards with great pace, a creative ACM and 2 holding midfielders sitting infront of a back 3. This works a treat without getting too deep.
I suppose it goes to show that the game really is not that hard if you a) find a tactic flukily - like me or b) really put some effort in - like you have done to great effect - rather than moaning like a lot of people do when they can't win.
Out of interest, what width settings have you got on the above?

norwichaggy: To answer your question, I look at my mentallity set. If its 13-20, I put the defensive line right in the middle. Which is 15-16. With that I match up the width and mirror it with Timewaste.

So you don't follow cleons approah and adjust to the scout report (and other factors) every match, which recently has seemed to me the only way to acheive with a mid-table side, at least in Britain. I've noticed in Spain that almost all teams (accordin to the scout) play mixed tempo and passing.
I would love to see you try this approach with a mid-tablish team in England and going fast tempo almost every match (since you go slow in every one here). Perhaps someone like B'burn (my team) or Boro. I might try this approach myselg once I'm bored of Spain (currently playing two games- Valencia and Athletic B). In both I'm using a mix of Cleons and wwfans approaches with global mentality btw.
One further q (hope you don't mind). How have you fared against the big teams (ie Barca, Real, Valencia, Athletico). I always struggle in Spain (with Valencia and Athletic) against Barca and Real (particularly Real). It seems your approach is much more successful than mine.

moggydave: No. I never use the scout report in this game. Mainly because I dont really know how to apply to it and quite frankly I dont really trust it. But that doesnt mean you cant apply it to these tactic if thats what you believe. It could make them better. I also dont use opposition instructions. Do you? Maybe you can teach me about using the scout report. Remember its an open tactical topic. Were her to help each other. Like I did.
I just started with Barakaldo in Division B2. Proffesional team predicted to finnish 11th or 10th I think. So I should be facing all the situations through out the season. So far played 10 games. Recorded 3W 6T and 1L. Not so good. But hopefull. Perhaps if finnish the season or get bored too soon Id love to try this in the Prem.
With Betis I did okay against the big teams. At home I beat Real and Barcelona. Lost away and I think pulled a few ties against some teams such as Seville, Zaragoza ect...I did okay.
