. . . that I am dying to know the answer to, and who better than Llamas to ask them of (Besides there is always the chance for a new thread to go gloriously off topic!)
1) What is the difference between a volley and a half volley? Is the volley striking without a bou8nce first and the half hitting the ball off the bounce?
2) When a goalkeeper is "off his line" what does that mean? Is that that he is not between the ball and the goal?
3) What is the difference between a player (over 24) signing for a new club on a free transfer during the last 6 months of his contract or leaving on a Bosman? I can't figure out the difference if there is one.
4) what is considered a long shot (as in the FM attribute, not Workington winning the Prem ) in football? Anywhere outside the penalty area?

Exactly that.

No. It means that he's not on the line in the goal but rushing out.

No idea either. I'm interested in knowing as well.

I think there won't be a clear answer for this. I treat long shots as "every shot the ****ing player shouldn't have tried".
If you mean in terms of the FM indicators for 3, a player with Bos next to his name has decided he won't be re-signing for his current team and will leave at the end of his contract, but hasn't found a new club yet.
Pre-Bosman a club could retain the playing registration for an out of contract player (and hence demand a fee), but now they aren't able to do that (at least, for over 24s).
3) The Bosman ruling (nice summary here) is a bit tricky as it works in-game. The simplest part is that if an EU-based player's contract (applies to some other countries, too) expires within 6 months, you are able to offer him a contract and if he accepts, he joins on a free when his contract runs out.
If the player is over 24 years old, his contract is protected for a certain amount of time (2 years, I think), at which point you can offer a contract and he can leave as he pleases. If the player is 24 or under, I think his contract is protected for 3 years
(bit of a moot point, since most contracts only last 2-3 years anyway, but there you go).
I would say that a long shot is any taken from 25 yards or more from goal. It is at the 25 yard mark the the commentary really begins to make a distinction, so I would say that is the starting point for long shots.
It makes the same distinction when you score on a free kick from the same distance. So are you saying that the Free kick rating is the same as the Long shot rating. It seems a bit redundant.
